HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Dear dancers,

Happy New Year to you all!!!

I hope you all had a peaceful Christmas and haven't eaten too much? (actually I can't say that, as I obviously HAVE eaten too much and am now paying the price having put on half a stone!)....so let's move on from this subject and get you all up to date with the goings-on in the Katz Modern Line Dance Club....

Classes are back from Wednesday 4th January in Six Villages - Westergate
Friday 6th January in The Newell Centre - Chichester
and
Monday 9th January in Oak Lodge - West Wickham, Kent.....yes you did read that correctly!

The Monday class is no longer going to move to Azelia Hall as the trustess have decided that dancers are not the kind of groups they want using the hall as we are damaging the floor...!

But that's ok with me, as I was already missing Oak Lodge, and am happy to return there once more with a promise from Colin that the floor will be polished for us to use every week from now on, hopefully solving our issue of 'sticky jelly floor' that occasionally hinders the dancers at the back of the hall....(Monday is Jelly day for the children, and the cleaners don't always manage to get the floor as they should!)......

Oak Lodge is a lovely bright hall, and the dancers that use it are lovely and bright and bubbly too - a perfect match - so that's where we will stay for the foreseeable future...!

Please note that there is a small increase for Monday's class of 50p each.....starting from Jan 9th........

ANDY & JULIE'S NEW YEAR'S BASH!!!

This party will take place in Six Villages Sports Centre on Saturday 14th January from 7 - 11.30 p.m. for only £5 each......there is no need to pre purchase tickets, but please do let me know if you are intending to come along that night so I can keep a little eye on numbers......

The party is NOT going to be in the hall the classes run in, but will be in the HUGE SPORTS HALL instead just past reception........we can't wait to try out this new hall and to give you all the space you need to dance the night away...from a dancer's point of view I love having the luxury of lots of dancefloor to do my own thing in, and I'm sure you will all love it too!

Please do bring your line dance friends along to our party and help Andy and I bring the New Year in with a BANG!!! (albeit a fortnight late!)....under 18's are only £2 each....please bring along your own drinks and nibbles for your OWN table if you wish.....

BOURNEMOUTH!!!! IT'S ALMOST HERE!!!

Well, can you believe that it's almost time for our Annual Club Holiday once again!!? Doesn't time fly!?

A big thank you to those that have already paid your balance, and for those of you that have yet to pay please note that the balance is due by the end of January.....if you can pay it directly into my bank account that would be great! I will email you with the bank details once more, if you would prefer to pay by cheque then that's fine too of course, you will find my address on the tear off slip at the back of your booking form...if you need a copy of this I can email it across for you too.

I would just like to finish this email with a big THANK YOU to everyone for all your lovely Christmas cards and gifts, Andy and I are very touched that you go to so much trouble to remember us...my house is FULL of Cards, and it's just lovely...

Christmas Party Week in The Katz Line Dance Club!

Seasons Greeting to all my lovely dancers!

This week is our Christmas Party Week - and we will be celebrating the season in style in all of the classes AND Holding a HUGE Christmas party on Saturday night in Chichester too!!

But let's start at the beginning with the first of our Christmas Parties, and that is:

Monday 12th December and will be held in Azelia Hall (more on this later), Beckenham! (please note that there 'may' be some gas works in the area in the local roads)....

Doors open at 7 p.m. and we party on til 10.15! Only £5 each!

Please bring your own drinks for your own table - and a plate to 'share' with the class for our buffet table. Don't worry if you haven't yet decided what to bring - a small dinner plate of tasty nibbles, either savory or sweet will be perfect! I will supply the plates and cutlery - the music and the dancing - and prizes for the Christmas Raffle!!

This will be our last class until January 9th (due to the Bank Holiday).

We are doing our 'trial run' in Azelia for three weeks in January 2012 to see if you prefer dancing there as it has a larger, wooden dance floor and a stage..........on the last session in Azelia (23rd January we will have a vote to see if you would like to stay in Azelia permanently or return to Oak Lodge - the majority wins!).

Please do support me as I try out this new hall - your feedback and opinions are very very important to me - and I have listened to your concerns over Oak Lodge and understand them, hence the trial in a different hall.

However, Oak Lodge are very sorry to lose us and really would like us to come back - they are holding the booking space for us until after the vote takes place (aren't they lovely!) and have promised to look into our minor disappointments if we do want to return.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow girlies!! And have a lot of fun in store for you all - hehe...or should I say - Ho Ho Ho!!

WEDNESDAY CLASS - SIX VILLAGES - 14th December...

For tonights class I will be bringing along lots of lovely Mince Pies and Cakes!!! Please feel free to bring along some more nibbles if you wish and your own drinks........I have in store a Class with a Festive Feel!!! Class times are as normal - 6.45 p.m start for the beginners......let's have a good ol' knees up shall we!!?

This is our last Wednesday night until January 4th as we close for the Christmas and New Year season.

FRIDAY CLASS - NEWELL CENTRE - 16th December....

We are having a CHRISTMAS PARTY this afternoon for the Newell Centre Class, please do all come along at 1.15 and stay the whole afternoon for only £4 each...!

Please do bring along a plate of nibbles to share with the class - and it doesn't matter if you haven't had a chance to write down what you are bringing on the list - anything sweet or savory will do!! Feel free to bring along your own drinks for your own table, for a class party with a Fun Festive Feel! There will also be a Christmas Raffle if you would like to join in...and as always - tea, coffee and biccies are free!

We are then closed until January 6th - when classes resume at normal times - 1.15 p.m. for Improvers/Easy Intermediate and 2.30 for Absolute Beginners....!

SATURDAY NIGHT - BIG PARTY NIGHT - NEWELL CENTRE - 17th December!

Doors open at 7 p.m. and we party on til 11.15 p.m.! You will be allocated tables to ensure you are seated with your friends, with careful note made of friendship groups and those that get very hot on the dance floor having seats by the doors........at the same time ensuring that those that are not keen on a draught, being placed on the opposite side of the hall....whew!! it took a little planning but I think I may have just got it right this time! Ha ha!

If you would like to dress up in FANCY DRESS please do - we will have prizes for the best costumes! There is also a CHARITY RAFFLE being held - and all donations will be welcome - ALL proceeds from the raffle will go to St. Wilfrid's Hospice (our chosen charity).

This party is completely SOLD OUT unfortunately so if you missed out on tickets this time, we can only apologise and let you know that our next Line Dance Social will be held at Six Villages Sports Centre in the BIG Hall (not the one we use for classes) on January 14th from 7 - 11.45 p.m.!!! Tickets are available on the door for £5 each - no need to buy tickets in advance as there will be room for everyone! This will be a BYO Drinks and Nibbles for your own table event....and Andy and I will be there to play all your requests allllll night long....!!

November in the Katz MLDC

Hi Peeps!

Well can you believe it's November already?! Me niether but it is! Arriving at class last night in the dark was very strange I have to say, but because it was Halloween and there was a gorgeous crescent moon in a slightly misty sky made it perfectly acceptable and perfect for the occasion!

Our Halloween party was a SCREAM quite literally as during the beginners class a rather scary figure walked through the door......never spoke a single word and moved around our dancers in a menacing fashion.....dressed in black from head to toe with a scream mask on and skeleton bones painted down their front, we were all a 'tad' concerned for a while.....trying to work out just who this frightening figure was........when 'it' let out an ear piercing scream we all jumped about ten foot in the air and ran for our lives!!! If it hadn't been for the tell tale sign of 'small delicate feet' in line dance boots I would have been convinced this was a psycho let loose to come and get us.....however, our 'pyscho' turned out to be the (usually) very lovely and quiet LIN!!! She kept up the act all night long scaring the beeeeeeejeezers out of every unsuspecting soul at every possible opportunity and undoubtedly made the party as good as it was!! Thank you Lin but please please PLEASE - never do it again!! I'm still shaking from top to toe!! hehe

Thank you to everyone else that dressed up too and joined in with the fun by bringing in goodies and accesories for our hall....we had a lovely spooooooky time!!! Next year Halloween falls on a Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (help!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Last Saturday was the final day of the current Viking season and therefore there are no more line dance lessons or socials until we re -open in March 2012. Thank you to everyone that has joined in the fun with us this year, and we are looking forward to doing it all over again next year!! Andy has booked most of the acts for next year, and will be publishing a list of whos on and when shortly...........I have leaflets of the opening acts which I will be bringing along to the Wednesday and Friday classes this week if you would like one, they will be on the table....

Sunday was the Macmillan Danceathon in Arun Leisure Centre...and it was a hoot!!

I'd like to say a personal thank you to all of the lovely girls that agreeed to join me in my team for the event:

Helen, Sam, Chris, Mary, Sally, Nikki and Georgia - you are all superstars and danced far far more than I managed that day! Thank you all too for 'agreeing' to be in our little demo - you were all foot perfect as I knew you would be...hehe.....it was lovely to see Kim and her two friends there too, and great to have them on our table.....

If you sponsored me for this event I am now collecting in monies in my classes - thank you all so much for your support and want to take this opportunity also to just how proud I am to be asked to teach at such a wonderful event organised by three lovely young sisters who's mum suffered from cancer a couple of years ago - they raised over £15,000 last year for Macmillan cancer support and I'm sure this year they will top that figure by miles! On Saturday 12th November we have the first of our Winter Special Socials in the Newell Centre from 7 pm...I will be selling tickets in this weeks classes.......

Our Sussex Christmas Party is on Saturday 17th December......again, we start at 7 pm...and tickets are on sale NOW!

Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis but as we only advertise our parties to our own dancers (and a few of their friends) you never need to worry that you won't get in....you are our dancers and we look after you FIRST!.......

Tickets are only £5 each - with under 18's paying £2 each.....

I would just like to remind all Six Villages dancers that there is NO class tonight!!!!!!!!!! If you are missing your fix of dancing this week then why not pop along to the Viking, Green Lawns, Selsey on Saturday from 1 - 4 p.m. for a FREE class instead? It would be lovely to see you there!!!!!!! You could stay on in Selsey for the evenings entertainment of line dancing to two bands from 6.30 - 1 a.m. and as a special treat that will be FREE too!!!!!! Tell your friends and bring them all along and lets all parrttaaay!!!

Hope you are all fit and well!

Just a little update about this week's classes:

Monday 24th - Class on as normal at Oak Lodge - Easy class 6.30 - 7.45 p.m. Experienced Class 7.45 - 9.45 p.m. Or pop in any time and do half of one class and half of the other - or just stay all night for £5!

Wednesday 26th - Six Villages, Westergate - NO CLASS THIS WEEK - my apologies - see you next week as normal on November 2nd! Easy Class - 6.45 - 8 p.m. Experienced Class 8 - 9.45 p.m. or pop in any time and do half of one class and half of the other - or just stay all night for only £4! (It's cheaper in West Sussex to hire halls lol!)

Friday 28th - Newell Centre, Chichester. Class on as normal

Classics/Easy class - 1.30 - 2.45 p.m. suitable for anyone that likes an easy going class - dancing old classics such as Strollalong Cha Cha, smokey places, lamtarra rhumba - and newer easy dances such as My Pretty Belinda and Hello Dolly!

REAL BEGINNERS CLASS - 2.30 - 3.45 p.m. this class is for real beginners only - learning the basic steps and dances only - dances such as the Electric slide, fuzzy duck slide, county line cha cha and country walkin are the level of dance to expect in this hour - with a 15 'overlap' as a 'warm up' with the earlier class...

We have recently introduced a 'tea/coffee and biscuits break' during each class - after 30 minutes of dancing we break for ten minutes to replenish and refresh before continuing on with a further 30 minutes of dancing - making this class most suitable for the person requiring gentle exercise and thoughtful teaching.....

Saturday 29th October - THE LAST VIKING CLASS OF THE SEASON!!!

come along at 1 p.m. and join me for our last FREE class of the season at the Viking Club in Selsey - let's have three hours of non stop reviews and requests and go out of the year with a BANG!!!

Stay in Selsey for the rest of the day and join Andy and I again in the evening from 6.30 p.m. til 1 a.m. and enjoy live music from Broadcaster and Livewire! Andy will play all of your requests inbetween the sets of live music and will also throw in a few dances to test those memories and keep you thinking!!

As the season is due to end soon - you may be wondering where you can go and dance on a Saturday night? Well Andy and I are running TWO line dance parties in Chichester and you would be most welcome..!!

The Viking this weekend - Oct 14th - 16th 2011 and other West Sussex news..

Dear West Sussex Dancers,

Just a quickie to remind you all (as if you didnt know already!) that this weekend is our fabulous VIKING PARTY WEEKEND...we start on Friday night and party right through til very late on Sunday night - with three days and nights of non stop line dance and great music from the best of the line dance acts on the circuit!

here is the line up:

FRIDAY NIGHT: PLAIN LOCO AND LASS VEGAS. Doors open at 7 p.m.

SAT FROM 1 PM: WESTCOASTERS.
SAT NIGHT: THE THRILLBILLIES AND THE CURTIS BROTHERS. Doors open at 7 p.m.

SUNDAY FROM 1 P.M. PAUL TAYLOR
SUNDAY NIGHT: TEXAS TORNADOS AND NATALIE!! Doors open at 7 p.m.

My classes are on Saturday and Sunday mornings - Doors open at 10.45......and continue until 1 p.m. Andy will take over from me playing all your requests all afternoon between two sets of live music from your afternoon bands!

Doors close again at around 4 p.m. and re-open at 7 p.m.

tickets are £10 per sesson (five in all) or £40 for the whole weekend (which gives you one for free!)

If you are a member of the viking you only pay half price for the whole weekend!! great value for money indeed!

I will be teaching six brand new dances this weekend and really hope you can make it and join in the fun...:)

Autumn In The Katz Line Dance Club

Dear Dancers,

Well what a lovely September we are having here in the UK......long may it last, those gorgeous blue skies and beautiful autumn leaves are enough to lift anyones spirits about the end of Summer.....

But if mother nature isn't making you happy enough, then you always have your line dance classes to look forward to as well!

Classes are up and running once more - please go to http://www.linedancingevents.com/ and click on 'classes' to check class times and venues!

'Back to school' Fever appears to have struck some of you - with class numbers being very healthy indeed, especially on Monday and Wednesday evenings.....! Thank you all for coming out to have fun whilst learning the latest and greatest linedances being taught across the UK (and indeed the world)....

If you are a complete beginner - you will be made very welcome in all of our classes, and especially so on Friday afternoons in The Newell Centre in Chichester which has just gone 'back to basics!'...class starts at 2.30 p.m. so why not take the plunge and come and join us and see what we get up to when everyone else is watching daytime TV?

Saturday afternoons at the Viking will soon be coming to an end for this season - classes will continue until the end of October......please note that during the Viking October Party weekend (14th - 16th) there will be two classes on Saturday and Sunday morning from around 10.45 a.m. til 1 p.m. - if you are coming for the class only - it will be free of charge as always. However the class will be followed by live music and if you would like to stay the cost will be £10.

As you can see the club have a fabulous line up that weekend - each session costs £10 each - or to come to all five sessions for £40 all you need to do is to buy a 'viking party pass' either beforehand by calling the Viking on 01243608427 or let us know you are coming and we can have your passes ready for you at the door on the Friday Evening.

During the party weekend the doors will open at 7 p.m. and Andy will play all of your line dance requests, to all genres of music, all night long until the early hours of the following morning!!

So make sure you start taking your vitamins now! haha

If you live too far to come down each evening - why not book a caravan on the Park and stay all weekend? Simply call Bunn Leisure on 01243606080 and tell them you need a caravan for the Viking Party and they will do the rest - preferably you need a caravan on Green Lawns - or White Horse as they are walking (staggering) distance from the Viking Music & Dance Club..

This year the danceathon will be held in Arun Leisure Centre on Sunday october 30th. Details below:

Companies, friends or families, get a team together or come on your own, this fundraising event is all about having fun, laughing a lot and raising lots of money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

10 dance classes in 10 hours, all participants must be aged 11+ (under 18's must be in a team with an adult), teams can be up to 8 people (at least half your team must dance each dance class), individual’s can enter if you want more of a challenge and fancy dress is optional.

Dear Dancers,

Today is Monday 22nd August 2011 - and I just thought I should update my blog to remind you all that there are NO classes this week on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.......Oak Lodge is also closed next Monday on Bank Holiday Monday - 29th August.

Classes are back at Six Villages on Weds 31st August...
The Newell Centre re opens on Friday 2nd September
and
Oak Lodge re opens on Monday 5th September!

Summer Beano Report!!

Well what can I say about this event?!!

First of all we arrived safely at the hotel and were very well looked after by the hotel staff who gave us all gorgeous bedrooms to stay in.....our room had a double aspect....the sea to the front - and a building that was being demolished to the right!!! You may think this disappointed me, but you would be wrong - it was the talking point of the whole trip! - watchin the HUGE demolition DINOSAUR chomping away at the building brick by brick with such a delicate 'hand' was fascinating and many Southsea regulars obviously agreed as people on the beach had their deck chairs facing the demolition instead of the sea!! hehe!! Since I've been home I have been wondering how they are getting on, and am considering a drive back down there sometime to see for myself!!

Anyway - exciting demolition apart....we had a FABBY time for three days and nights in the Royal Beach....the dancefloor was gorgeous, shiny and new (intitial problems with a dry floor were soon overcome)...and we whooshed over the floor with ease from then on!

The restaurant food was delicious.......the staff were very helpful and quick to sort out any minor problems immediately....and with all of this in mind we have already booked to return to the hotel next Summer!! Please do put this date in your diary - August 17th - 20th 2012! We will have around 70 places to fill and it will be strictly first come first served.....keep an eye out for booking forms in your classes sometime in the Autumn.....please do email me on julieandthekatz@msn.com if you would like to be put on the list for information as soon as it is finalised!

Tuesday night was our Giant Raffle and Quiz night......and our first chance to try out this brand new dance floor which has recently been laid to make it over twice the size it once was...there was plenty of room for everyone and we partied until after Midnight........

Wednesday night was our Hawaiian night - and everyone made so much effort to dress up it was just beautiful to see......we started off with Aloha!!! a specially choreographed Hawaiian style line dance written to Lilo and Stitch's song Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride.....everyone looked gorgeous swaying their grass skirts along to this lovely track. The fancy dress parade incorporated a Limbo competition which was something to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hema from our Oak Lodge class was the winner, and she astounded us all with her flexibility!! Rosemary won the Fancy Dress with her beautiful home made Hawaiian Leis......gorgeous!

We were lucky enough to have four lovely children along on the trip who became my assistants during the week - helping with the raffle......waving pom poms, and playing musical instruments along with the singers on our Thursday night 'Sing and Dance' night.........which was just like the X factor without Simon Cowell......St. Theresa and the Sinners were first up with their rendition of Hello Dolly (replaced with Hello Phyllis - which they sang to my lovely mum!)........they were stunning - and they left me speechless....which is something that is not often acheived by anyone if Im honest....

The Line-Istics were up next with a gorgeous rendition of My Pretty Belinda......to say it took my breath away would be an understatment...so I wont...;)

The Cha-lites took their place in the spotlight next, and warbled their way through Blue Night.....whilst accompanied ably by Rosie and co from the Chichester classes......it was truly tear jerking...no, seriously....I definately felt a tear or two in my eye whilst they were singing.....

I joined Pat C and we became the Cheeky Girls and we sang (well Pat sang - I yelled!) our way through Chica Boom Boom and I now know for sure that the £800 we spent on mums hearing aid was worth every penny when she said to me afterwards 'oooh Julie - I didnt know you could sing!'....hahahaha!!!

St. Theresa and the Swingers - oh - sorry I mean Sinners - belted out two more classics for us to dance along to - Mr Man In the Moon (whom I expected could actually hear them!) and Islands in the stream which would have made Dolly and Kenny wish they had never recorded the track in the first place had they known just how much 'better' this new girl band would have made the song sound just a few decades later.....

No seriously Ladies you were all WONDERFUL and I thank every single one of you for joining in with such gusto - and have to say a big thank you to St. Theresas group for their matching outfits made that very day just for the event!!

Another big thank you goes to all my other dancers that popped in to see us during the week - it was lovely having you all along...if you keep an eye on your email inboxes you should be receiving some photos very very soon....

I will also bring along some piccies to class to show you just how fabulous you all looked!

Many thanks to Viv for taking such lovely photos - to Lin for taking care of the register on the way home, to Maxine for helping out on the dance floor the whole time and for helping me decorate the hall so beautifully...and to my hubby Andy for being so understanding of my hairbrained schemes and quietly going along with all of them....

THE KATZ SUMMER NEWSLETTER! AUGUST 2011

Hello peeps! Well we are at that time of year again, when some of us are off on our hollibobs for a week or two, and the long summer evenings are here for us to enjoy.......!
Please read through this letter to see what will be happening at YOUR club during the month of August....

MONDAY NIGHTS – OAK LODGE – WEST WICKHAM, KENT...
Classes remain open for the first three weeks of August, and for the first year since opening we are being allowed to use Oak Lodge and do not have to use any alternative venue! Yipee!

Classes are OPEN on the following dates:

July 25th, August 1st, August 8th (OUR SUMMER PIMMS PARTY NIGHT!), and August 15th.......

We will NOT be open on the last two Mondays of August, those dates are: August 22nd and 29th.
Class will resume on September 5th.......at normal times.....

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS – SIX VILLAGES SPORTS CENTRE – WESTERGATE, SUSSEX
Classes are OPEN on the following dates:

July 27th, August 3rd, August 10th (OUR SUMMER PIMMS PARTY NIGHT!)...

We will NOT be open on August 17th or 24th...........

Class will resume on August 31st – our new class times will be as follows:

7 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginners class....
8 p.m. to 9.45 p.m. improvers/intermediate/advanced class

The reason for the slightly later start is that the Sports Centre are starting a class on Wednesday evenings in the hall just before our session begins....we need to allow time for setting up and have agreed with the management to begin our classes 30 minutes later than usual. This will not affect the level of your dances, and you will be welcome, of course, to stay until 8.15 for our usual ‘overlap’ of classes for your social dance time!! 

FRIDAY AFTERNOONS – THE NEWELL CENTRE, CHICHESTER. WEST SUSSEX.

Classes are OPEN on the following dates:

July 29th, August 5th, August 12th (OUR SUMMER PARTY DAY!!! WITH PIMMS!)....

We will NOT be open on August 19th or August 26th.........

Class will resume on Friday September 2nd........our new class times of 1.30 p.m. for Improvers and 2.30 p.m. for Beginners will remain the same.......each class is only £3 each – or £4 to stay for both......

SUMMER BEANO NEWS!!!

ROYAL BEACH HOTEL – SOUTHSEA (JUST OPPOSITE THE PIER)

TUESDAY 16TH AUGUST TO FRIDAY 19TH AUGUST £179 (INCLUDING COACH)

Well the time is almost upon us – it won’t be long before we head off to Sunny Southsea and the very lovely Royal Beach Hotel for our three long days and nights of line dance fun!! 

The coach will pick up our West Wickham dancers from our usual ‘pick up point’ of Manor Way on the junction of Kelsey Way (behind Kelsey park, Beckenham) at 10.15 a.m.

We will arrive at our second collection point outside Westergate School, Westergate, West Sussex at approx 12.30 p.m. (that’s just after noon!) to collect our Sussex dancers......we aim to arrive at the hotel at around 1.30 p.m. Rooms are available from 2 p.m. but may be ready earlier.

Andy and I popped in to the Royal Beach last weekend to see how much bigger they had made the dance floor and were both very impressed with how ENORMOUS the dance floor is now!! We could easily have taken twice as many people on this trip had we known the extent of the enlargement of the dance floor as the hotel has plenty of rooms to accommodate almost the whole club!!!

So, with that in mind, we are more than happy to accept any new bookings (as many as you like!) on this trip and would be happy to talk to anyone who would like to ‘self drive’ to the hotel for a last minute arrangement.....give me a call on 07799741288 or drop me an email....

Also, we have started to collect names of people that are going to pop in to see us on any of the three evenings that we are there.......if you are already booked on the whole trip – this bit does not apply to you, so don’t worry, you have NO extra to pay........

Tuesday evening – 16th August – 8 til late! Only £5 each – you can pay on arrival – but would like an idea of numbers beforehand so that we can set aside a table for you...tonight is our first night at the hotel and Andy and I will be spinning the discs (what discs???) by playing all of your requests all night long without interruption!! We will also hold our raffle that night, and will have one of our legendary quizzes to take part in during the course of the evening (don’t worry, Andy is not doing the quiz this time and there will be NO questions about piers!! Haha)

Wednesday evening – 17th August – 8 til late! Only £5 each, again, you can pay on arrival but please do let us have an idea of numbers......tonight is our themed night and we will be donning our grass skirts and getting out those flowers for our HAWAIIAN PARTY NIGHT! .........there will be prizes for the best costumes and if I can find my poles an inpromtu limbo competition for anyone brave enough to lean backwards!! 

Thursday evening – 18th August – 8 til late! Only £5 each, and yes, you can pay on the door – but please do text me to let me know how many of you are coming down....tonights theme is BLACK AND SPARKLY and is the also the very first time that YOU are the entertainment!!! Because, tonight Mathew, YOU will be singing along, up on stage, whilst your friends dance their favourite line dances!!.....we will put out a list of Songs/dances you can choose from – and give you a sheet with the lyrics on – pass you a microphone and off you go!!!

You can choose to do this as a solo performance or as a group – we really don’t mind!! At the end of the night there will be a prize for the best ‘performance of the night’ so get your thinking caps on and please do let me know if there is a song you would just LOVE to sing along to that we use in our classes to dance to!! I predict a night of fun and laughter with our SONG AND DANCE night.......but, as always, joining in is optional.....alternatively you could be the backing dancers if you like – bring along your tambourines, shakers and anything else you would like to play to make your ‘performance’ as ‘professional’ as you like!! Hehe!!

Oh and!!! I MAY SING TOO!!! HAHAHA!!! (that’ll teach you a lesson!! Never let me sing again!! Haha)

SUMMER PARTIES

As mentioned above our Summer Pimms parties are on:

Monday 8th August, Wednesday 10th August and Friday 12th August in your respective classes......the dress code is ‘SUMMERY AND FLOWERY!’

....please feel free to bring along drinks for your own tables, and a plate of something to share with the class.....I will put lists out in your classes for you to write down what you would like to bring (so we don’t get too many sausage rolls!’...

I will provide the Pimms as always, and run the classes by way of requests for all of your fave dances!!

There will be a summery raffle in all classes, and the return of the PIGGY POT - WINNER TAKES ALL!!

So do please bring along £1 for the piggy – and £1 for a strip of raffle tickets.....this is NOT a charity raffle so I do not require any donations for the raffle thank you...please keep your donations for our next charity raffle.......

Dear Dancers,

Thank you to my lovely Oak Lodge Girlies for coming out in force for my first day back teaching.......it was lovely to feel 'normal' once more !

tonights class (13th july) is on as normal!!! yes folks, I will be back teaching you all a little later on today.......after a whole month away due to illness.....I'm now on the road to recovery and am really looking forward to seeing some friendly faces later!

Fridays class in The Newell Centre is on this week (15th July)

Saturdays class at the Viking will be taken by my good self....many thanks to Lesley for holding the fort the past few weeks...!!

NEXT WEEKS CLASSES - WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 18TH JULY

Mondays class will be taken by Vivienne and Lin - working from a playlist....as announced in class due to Andy and I taking a short break from work.....sorry about the terrible timing! Isn't it always the way!

Wednesday 20th July - Six Villages - NO CLASS - due to my one and only annual holiday....only a few days away tho, so all back to normal the week after.....!

Firday 22nd July - class will be on as normal, but with the new class times of 1.30 to 2.45 for the early class, and 2.30 to 3.45 for the absolute beginners class.......it's time we had a bit of an 'overlap' allowing for some social dancing of the two groups together! :)

Saturday 23rd July- Viking class on as normal!! Please come along at 1 p.m. if you are new to linedancing - otherwise its 2 - 4 p.m. for experienced dancers from improver to advanced.....

Hello there!!!

Well the good news is that all classes are ON THIS WEEK!!

I am on the road to recovery now and will be back teaching from next week 11th July...

The choccies and plant were lovely - and Amys special flower arrangement has pride of place in my fireplace....

Oak Lodge on Tuesday this week! (May 31st)

Dear Dancers,

Just a short note to remind all West Wickham dancers that Oak Lodge is on Tuesday night this week - 31st May (class times as normal)....hope you can make it!!

A BIG THANK YOU - is due to everyone that came along to our fundraiser last night at the Newell Centre in Chichester - you raised a grand total of just under £400 from ticket sales and the raffle....My thanks go to Steve and Jayne Riley for all their help and to The Newell Centre for allowing us FREE use of their venue to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross to use towards their continued efforts to help the most stricken people following the devastating earthquake and tsunami they suffered earlier this year....the monies will be sent off to the fund tomorrow morning!

Many thanks once again - you are very generous lovely people :)

On a personal note I would like to thank Jim and Mary for my gorgeous Chilli Cha Cha bear who I happily danceed with on stage for most of the night hahaha!! Someone said to me during the evening 'so it's not just men that don't grow up then?' and they were spot on!! hahaha!! I love toys! :)

on the weekend June 10th to 12th we are having the second of this years 'all weekend long' line dance parties at the Viking Music and Dance Club in Selsey (part of the Bunn Leisure park) Tickets for the event are just £40 each - which will gain you entry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (doors open at 7 p.m. and close at 1 a.m. each night!!!), plus TWO Dance workshops from yours truly on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10.45 to 1 p.m. followed by live music from 1 - 4 p.m.!!!!

Friday Nights performers are: TONY ROUSE AND CALICO!
Saturday afternoon we have: RICHARD PALMER
Saturday night we have: MUDDY BOOTS AND THE DIABLOS!
Sunday afternoon we have: BOB KEELEY
and finally on
Sunday night we have: LAS VAGAS and another fantastic act (yet to be confirmed)

If you can only make part of the weekend, don't worry - you can pay for each individual session on the door for only £10 each.......accomodation can be booked via Bunn leisure holiday park - on 01243 606080

The Viking club is situated in Green Lawns Caravan park - if this park is full ask for availability on White Horse (which is walking distance from the club)....and should that park also be full, you can book caravans on West Sands caravan park - which has a Holiday bus to ferry you to and from the Viking at regular intervals....

Dear Dancers,

Well we are almost half way through May already so I am a little late with my monthly newsletter as you can see!

Today is Friday 13th May!

Tomorrow's class at the Viking is on as normal - 1 - 2 p.m. for beginners/holidaymakers - and 2 - 4 p.m. for improver/intermediate and advanced dancers!

Dances currently being taught at the Viking in the 2 - 4 p.m. class are:

MY PRETTY BELINDA - GAMBLLING MAN (MAGGIE G) - PARTY ROCKIN' (SHAZ WALTON)

among many others still being reviewed such as:

CHICKEN WALK JIVE - PARTY FREAK - MAKE THIS DAY and many more...

The class is FREE on a Saturday all we ask is that you refrain from bringing in your own drinks/snacks and purchase at least one drink from across the bar to show your appreciation of a free three hour class...:)

The venue have given us FREE use of their facilities for the evening so every single penny raised that night will go directly to the Red Cross.......and you will get a great night's dancing to boot!! Post Easter classes...

Dear Dancers,

Tonight (Wednesday 27th April) we are open for business as usual at Six Villages Sports Centre (behind Westergate Community School) from 6.30 (beginners) to 9.45 p.m.) for a mere £3 for one hour 15 mins....or £4 to stay all night!

This Fridays class in the Newell Centre is cancelled due to a royal family somewhere having a Wedding and someone is filming the shenanigans on TV and making us all stay home to watch it! Tee Hee....I for one WILL be watching - I like a wedding! especially a big fancy one! So I will see you all next week (Friday 6th May)..

Saturdays class at the Viking is on from 1 p.m. as usual - if you are an absolute beginner your class is from 1 - 2 p.m. please do come along as early as possible.....Improvers/intermediates and advanced dancers classes run from 2 - 4 p.m.!

next Monday is yet another Bank Holiday and so we are open on TUESDAY instead..(just like we were this week - thank you to everyone that came out and had a boogie with me!)......so Ill see you then!

Dear Dancers!!

Well the sun is shining and April is getting its act together - with lovely light evenings line dancing is more fun than ever....tonight we will fling the windows and doors open at Oak Lodge and boogie on down to some fabulous summery, happy smiley music!!

All classes are open this week as normal apart from Friday at the Newell Centre which is closed for Good Friday....next Monday Oak Lodge is closed for the Bank Holiday BUT WE ARE IN ON TUESDAY INSTEAD!!!!! whooopie I hear you cry haha....

Dear dancers, many apologies but I have a very bad migraine that got a whole lot worse when I drove to the hall today at midday.......I put a notice on the door - Im so sorry I didnt get time to give you a warning not to come along, and hope you understand the reason why?

Our Friday classes are closed for the next two weeks also due to Good Friday and the Royal Weddding - so I will see you all again on the 6th May..

April in The Katz Line Dance Club!

Dear Dancers.....

Firstly can I just thank you all for taking party in this year's Daffodil Dance at Oak Lodge, Six Villages and (unexpectedly!) also at The Newell Centre in Chichester!

I am very pleased to announce that YOU raised a grand total of £179.52p in your combined efforts of buying Daffodil Pins, raffle tickets for Easter Bunnies, glasses of lemonade, cups of tea and coffee and biccies!! Every penny was added up and I have today (Tuesday 5th April) banked the cash and posted the cheque to the Marie Curie Cancer Care group on your behalf! Many many thanks for all your efforts, and, I have to say this bit too, for agreeing to learn said 'Daffodil Dance' even tho the music may not have been to everyones taste!! tee hee....The dance in question that was taught is called 'Baby Tonight' and is by Robbie McGowan Hickie (for those of you who may want to look it up and have a practice at home)

OAK LODGE NEWS....MONDAY NIGHTS...

As you all know there are THREE Bank Holiday Mondays coming up - one in april (25th ) and two in May (2nd and 30th)....because closing the classes on Bank Holidays puts us all out so much, the school have agreed to let me run the classes on THE TUESDAYS of those weeks instead......so there are NO CLASS CLOSURES AT ALL - NOT IN THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS - EASTER HOLIDAYS - OR ANYTIME SOON!!!

There is ONE class closure in April - and that is the day of THE ROYAL WEDDING! Friday 29th April........we did a quick show of hands and the vast majority of dancers would not be able to make dancing that day even if I were to open - so lets all take the day off and watch the wedding on the telly.....nice....!! Tea, biccies and cucumber sandwiches at our sides - haha....

VIKING CLASSES - SATURDAY AFTERNOONS...

there are NO closures to take place on these classes for the foreseeable future.....

SPECIAL SOCIAL IN AID OF THE JAPANESE DISASTER FUND....

ON SUNDAY 29th MAY (THAT'S MAY AND NOT APRIL!!) I will be holding a special line dance social to raise funds for this incredibly worthy cause...I'm sure we all sat and watched in horror as the tsunami swept across the coastline of Japan and felt totally helpless? I know we did....and there isnt anything we, so far away, CAN do except raise much needed funds to send to those places that need so much help to put their lives back together. So, with those charitable thoughts in mind, we really hope you will support Riley for an evening of LINE DANCING at the Newell Centre, Tozer Way, Chichester.....

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and close at 10.30 p.m.

We have been given the hall FREE OF CHARGE by the committee (thank you very much!!)

I am giving my services FREE OF CHARGE, and the lovely Steve Riley (of Westcoasters fame) is also giving his services FREE OF CHARGE...which means that every single penny taken on the door that night will go straight to the charity!!!

Tickets are only £5 each....you can bring your own drinks and nibbles - and if you have something you would like to donate to a 'Raffle Table' please do that also....we are keeping costs to the barest minimum so that we can raise as much money as we can.

We have a maximum of 60 tickets to sell - and tickets for our socials SELL OUT FAST!! so Please do let me know ASAP if you would like me to reserve tickets for you...

Tickets will be on sale in all West Sussex classes soon......

Other news....

If you have yet to pay your deposit for next years trip to Bournemouth - returning to the lovely Wessex Hotel...please do ask me for a booking form in class.....everyone that came on this years trip has a guaranteed reserved place (unless you have told me otherwise) so do NOT panic if you havent booked yet....we have had to close the books for any new dancers wanting to join us now as we have had several new people giving us deposits (thank you!) and do not want to overcrowd the venue....however IF you are bitterly disappointed that the annual trip is full, do not dispair as we have laid on a SECOND LINE DANCE BREAK!!!

This August sees our first ever SUMMER TIME SPECIAL three day midweek break to SOUTHSEA.......staying at the rather lovely Royal Beach Hotel (right across from the beach in Southsea) from Tuesday August 16th to Friday August 19th...we are offering three days and nights of line dance fun for only £179 each......this includes return coach travel!! (sorry we are unable to give a discount for any self drivers as the cost has been equally spread across the trip to enable more people to join us!)..however if you do not require the coach, you are, of course, very welcome to self drive and join us at the hotel....

Firstly can I just thank you all for taking part in last weeks efforts for Comic Relief...we raised a grand total of £355.45p!!!! Which is fabulous!!!

The breakdown was as follows:

Saturday afternoon class at the Viking - £105.00
Monday evening at Oak Lodge - £107.50
Wednesday evening at Six Villages - £80.45
and finally..
Friday afternoon at The Newell Centre - £62.50!!

So THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH for joining in with the fun.....if you are on facebook the photos have been uploaded to the site but I will endeavour to add a few on here too - sadly I didnt get time to take any photos of Saturdays class but did see one of our dancers with a camera clicking away - so maybe there will be some photots to follow soon!!

TV APPEARANCE ON THE ONE SHOW LAST MONDAY - 21st MARCH 2011
As you may have heard or seen I and some of my line dance friends and colleagues made a brief appearance on the One Show this week! The piece was about the rise of women in country music as Taylor Swift was to appear on the show....the BEEB had rung the Viking club in Selsey to ask if they could come and film in this atmospheric country saloon themed bar, and of course they said yes!

Very late on Thursday they rang to ask if we could get some dancers together for the filming and we were happy to oblige! Some of us even got the chance to do a line to camera - I said mine as fast as possible so that I didnt forget it! haha!

We were pleased with the result, and even got a mention from Matt Baker on the One Show before the film was shown...it was lovely to hear the word 'KATZ' on the telly!!

BOURNEMOUTH

Places are filling up faster than I can handle them!! So please do hand your forms back in as soon as you can so we can see if we have any spare spaces left over to offer to our newer dancers.....a lot of whom are keen to join us next time - if only we could find and even bigger hotel!!

SOUTHSEA - LONDON BEANO - THIS AUGUST!!
I have arranged an additional Seaside Beano for the London class to help to ease the problems caused by Bournemouth being almost full already - if you would like details of this trip please do email me on julieandthekatz@msn.com. the Dates for this three day/night summer trip from the London Class to Southsea is Tuesday 16th - Friday 19th August THIS YEAR! Its a lovely hotel, right opposite the beach!! Places are beginning to fill up nicely - and we are limited to only 50 people maximum! So it's very much first come first served....if any of our West Sussex dancers are interested in more details about this trip and would like to join us, please come and ask for details....(it may be fairly local for you, but it is still going to be loads of laughs and three days and nights of linedance fun!!

March in The Katz Line Dance Club....

Dear Dancers,

Well it appears that spring has finally sprung (FINALLY!!!) and that thoughts of long hot summer days are not too far away now....:)

With the arrival of spring, we have the RETURN TO THE VIKING! From this Saturday (5th March) Andy and I will be once more teaching and DJ-ing at this fantastic club in Selsey.... for details of all acts due to play there this season please go to www.vikingcwdc.co.uk and take a look!

Lessons at the viking are on Saturday afternoons from 1 - 4 p.m. and are completely free of charge - all we ask is that you refrain from bringing in your own drinks and snacks to this licensed bar, and buy at least one drink from across the bar to show your appreciation to Bunn leisure for allowing you access to FREE classes....!

From 1 - 2 p.m. I teach the simplest of dances to cater for holidaymakers and local absolute beginners...

From 2 - 4 p.m. I teach the current latest and greatest line dances from around the world....starting with improver level dances and working our way up to advanced after 3 p.m......please do come along for the whole afternoon tho, as I play intermeidate requests in between teaches in the beginner hour!

RED NOSE WEEK!!! Satuday 12th to Friday 18th March...!!

Yes folks its almost time for Red Nose Day once more...and I thought it might be fun to make it last a whole WEEK! so on Saturday 12th, Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th and Friday 18th if you would like to join in with the fun please come along to classes dressed in something red - and to add to the fun lets all do something funny with our hair!!! Wacky hair - do's - funny wigs - comedy hats even - anything goes!! Just use your imag...inations......and don't forget to pop along to your local Sainsbury's to pick up an official Red Nose too......on sale in all classes will be my extra special 'Red Nose Day' cakes (ooooh I can hear you all saying yummy right now!! haha)...on sale for a mere 50p each.

We will also be having a Red Themed Raffle - so if you have anything Red (or pink - or anything else to be honest - it's all for a good cause!) please do bring them along for the raffle table!!! and let's do something funny for money!

DAFFODIL DANCE!!! MARCH 2011

This year's Daffodil Dance for Marie Curie will be taught during the month of March....from Monday 28th March onwards....so if you fancy switching from Red clothes to Yellow clothes that would be fab!!! I will be selling Daffodil pins in all classes that week - and it will cost you all £1 each to learn the dance and have a pin.....! its a great cause and a lot of fun...so please do bring along that extra £1 to join in the dance!!

The only other news is that Andy and I have been OVERWHELMED at the generosity of all of our lovely dancers and line dance friends at our recent wedding...thank you all soooooooooooooooo very much for all the beautiful cards, gifts and flowers you have sent us....some of our cards are handmade and incredibly beautiful, we will treasure all of them forever......I guess I should thank you for dressing me up on my 'hen nights' but I'm not sure I will....haha

Well Andy and I are back home after an extended 'honeymoon' down at the Wessex Hotel in Bournemouth, and can't wait to show you all of the photos we took at the weekend during our annual club holiday! So here we go!

Dear Dancers,

Well firstly I must say tell you this...

I'M MARRIED!!!!!

Andy and I tied the knot on Saturday at the beautiful Arundel Town Hall with close family surrounding us. It was a truly magical day which went without a hitch.....the sun even came out for us, and we can't wait to show you all the photos!

Thank you everyone who sent us cards and gifts, we are very moved by your generosity, and know we are very lucky to have such lovely people in our classes, who we look upon as being our friends.......

Please note that there is a class tomorrow night at SIX VILLAGES sports centre - times as normal!!!

There is no class this coming Friday at The Newell Centre, and no class next Monday (21st) at Oak Lodge.......

All classes return to normal from next Wednesday 23rd February!!

BOXGROVE CLASS - closed down...this is the letter I have sent to all the members of this new experimental class.....

Firstly can I thank you all for being so lovely and attending my new class at Boxgove these past eight weeks or so.....it has been lovely to see some new faces, and also to see some of my regular dancers twice a week!

Recently I was given the booking form for March onwards......I had intially booked the venue up until the end of January and then was going to review the numbers/popularity of the class before booking further...unfortunately I have had to make the decision not to continue with this class for two very good reasons.

Firstly, the numbers of people attending are just enough to cover the hall rental, I would need approx 35 dancers regularly to make it a profitable class. We were averaging around 15 or so.....20 was the maximum number we ever acheived.

Secondly, I am finding it very tiring teaching two nights in a row, and then on Friday afternoon too. On March 5th the Viking opens again in Selsey and I will also be teaching on Saturday afternoons - and I know that to attempt to do four days in a row is going to be too much for me. I didn't know how I would get on to be honest until I tried it! But now I have, I do know! and sadly for this class it means it has now closed as my energy levels just aren't up to it.

What I would like to say to those of you that loved the class but that hasn't yet tried out my Wednesday class in Six Villages Sports Centre, Westergate (just 7 minutes away from Boxgrove in a car), is that I would love you to come along at 8 p.m. one Wednesday and try the class out.....from 8 - 9.45 p.m. I teach current line dances, some along the lines of Knee Deep and Jig About, but also others along the lines of Pack Up, Drip Droppin etc.....you will STILL be learning current line dances, that will pack the dance floors through the year.......I think its a lovely friendly class, full of lovely people and think that the new people I have met at Boxgrove would fit right in. To those of you who have already attended the Westergate class but switched to Thursdays, if you decide to switch back to Wednesdays I will accomodate your tastes even more than I did before, to teach dances along the lines of Drip Droppin etc. we need to have members that want to learn them regularly attending the class. I believe we have plenty of that level that 'want' to learn these dances now, so all I can say, is please come along on a Wednesday once again, and we will pick up where we left off at Boxgrove! :) (plus if you want to go over older improver level dances you are welcome to come along even earlier whilst the beginners are still there as from 7.30 - 8 p.m. I re teach dances such as Closer, Walk the line, T Bone Shuffle etc etc to bring the improvers up through the ranks!)

The level of dance I have been teaching at Boxgrove hasn't been any harder than the level of dance I teach at Westergate. The only difference is that you got 'more' dances than I would attempt to teach in one evening at Westergate.

And that's the only difference really - apart from that it's exactly the same! Fun, friendly, a good workout and local....! Line dancing is a dwindling sport in many areas, but I feel that the South East of England have a good supportive bunch of linedancers who want to keep it alive and kicking (not literally - well, not unless its scripted!) and the only way to do that is to reguarly attend the local classes and keep them thriving! I'm doing my bit at the opposite end by starting and re-starting absolute beginners classes in and around the area, and we currenly have a good 15 or so brand new people in our beginner classes.....let's see if we can make addicts out of them, by throwing parties, organising holidays, and dancing to live music.....I love line dancing as much as you all do, and want to see it thriving for years to come!

At the recent Linedancer Magazine awards show I had taught ALL of the dances that won prizes in their categories....Mamma Maria, Quarter after one, Tennessee Waltz Surprize, Rhyme or Reason and Drip Droppin!!! and in all cases as soon as they were released......these dances are now world wide hits....meaning you can learn them here, and go anywhere in the world to dance them alongside linedancers from as far afield as Australia!

Once again I would like to apologise for this sudden closure of the class with no notice, but I had to make a decision there and then with a booking form in my hand and really had no choice but to close it down.

If you would like to join my Wednesday dancers, we are next open on Wednesday 16th February......you class would begin at 8 p.m. and costs £4 each.

MONDAY NIGHT - OAK LODGE PRIMARY SCHOOL - WEST WICKHAM, KENT.

We are closed on Monday 14th February and Monday 21st February. All other dates are on as normal.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT - SIX VILLAGES SPORTS CENTRE - WESTERGATE, CHICHESTER, WEST SUSSEX.

We are closed on Wednesday 9th February (this is a last minute alteration due to the last minute run up to our wedding the following weekend).....y apologies - all other dates are on as normal.

OTHER NEWS...!

BOURNEMOUTH UPDATE!!

Thank you to everyone for paying nice and promptly for the forthcoming weekend break to the Wessex Hotel in Bournemouth.....plans are coming together nicely now! I hope you are giving some thought to our fancy dress night on the Saturday (theme: Pirates and/or The Beach!)....please note there is NO fancy dress on the Friday, apparently a few people thought there was a fancy dress to accompany the 'Wedding reception' we are throwing for you on the Friday night!!! How funny would it have been to see several people arriving dressed as brides and bridesmaids!!?? But no, please dont do that haha....just come as you would have come for your Friday night social....anything goes, its your weekend, you wear what you want (well, except wedding dresses ok? hehe)

COACH TRAVEL FROM WEST SUSSEX...we now have confirmation that the coach will be collecting our West Sussex dancers from just outside Six Villages Sports Centre (Westergate Community School) at the bus stop opposite the petrol station on the main road. If you need to drive to the coach, can I suggest that you park in side roads just by the school, we are unable to use the School's car park over the weekend. I will be bringing along info about the coaches to classes next week. Linda and Jane will be taking care of you on the journey to The Wessex and I will be at the hotel ready to greet you on arrival! The coach is leaving Westergate at 11 a.m. please call me on 07799741288 if you have any problems that morning. Your estimated arrival time is 1 p.m. Rooms are available from 2, but most should be ready on arrival.

COACH TRAVEL FROM BECKENHAM, KENT....the coach will collect you at 10.15 a.m. from Manor Way, on the junction of Kelsey Way behind Kelsey Park....just past the entrance to Kelsey Park Boys School. You can leave your cars in this road for the weekend if you so wish as there are no parking restrictions. Lin and Kellie (yes Kellie!) will be looking after you on your journey to Bournemouth, and I will be there to greet you on your arrival! Your estimated arrival time is 1 p.m. Rooms are available from 2, but most should be ready on arrival.

For all self drivers, please note that your rooms are available from 2 p.m. but if you arrive early they will look after your luggage for you whilst you explore the area or grab a bite to eat in the bar.

BOURNEMOUTH TRIP - balance now due please...

Please could you bring your balance to your classes this week, or pop them in the post to me - as I have to make sure the cheques clear in time for the hotel and coach to be paid......

One little note about the Friday night in Bournemouth before I go - it is NOT a fancy dress night - it may 'feel' a little like a Wedding reception tho so please just wear your glad rags!! on SATURDAY night we are having a themed fancy dress night - and the theme is PIRATES OR THE BEACH....!!! use your imaginations to think about what you could dress up as - Pirates are the obvious choice - and nothing wrong with that at all if thats what you want to dress up as, BUT, a deep sea diver would be hilarious! if not impossible to dance in !! haha!! Its up to you - and as always - fancy dress is OPTIONAL!!! so you do not have to dress up if you dont want to....it's your choice :)

Can I just take this opportunity to thank those of you that came along to last nights party (Jan 15th) in the Newell Centre, and helped to raise money for St. Wilfred's hospice with our charity raffle.....we made £80 (exactly!!) which will be sent to the hospice a.s.a.p! thank you all very much for joining in :)

Many thanks to those that updated me on the road conditions in the West Wickham area, as it appears your side roads remain trecherous - Andy and I think it will be best to just cancel the class to save anyone the trouble of coming out in the cold, and to take away the risk of road accidents to all of us by cancelling this last class of the year. I am very glad we had our party last week!!! speaking of which....

I would like to take this opportunity to thank ALL OF MY DANCERS so much for being such lovely people to teach each week, and a HUGE thank you for all the lovely Christmas Cards and presents I have received over the past few weeks.......the cards are all up on string festooning (is that a word!!?) my walls in the living room :)

Wednesday 5th January - Six Villages Sports Centre - Westergate, Chichester....with a BRAND NEW ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS CLASS BEGINNING AT 6.30!!! If you are an experienced beginner, please do slightly alter your arrival time to 7 p.m.....all other class times remain the same...

Thursday 6th January - Boxgove Village Hall - Boxgrove, Chichester.....7.30 - 9.30 p.m....this class is for intermediates/advanced dancers ONLY.....and is designed for the dancer that loves to keep bang up to date with the current top dances in the UK!

Friday 7th January - The Newell Centre, Tozer Way, Chichester......1.15 - 2.30 p.m. Experienced beginners/improvers......and 2.45 - 4 p.m. ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS CLASS!!! No experience necessary - No partner needed - just wear comfy clothing, low heels supportive footwear and bring along a bottle of water and join in!! No need to pre book - this class is pay as you go!!

Monday 10th January - Oak Lodge - West Wickham.......beginners from 6.30.....Improvers from 7.00.........easy intermediates from 7.30......and intermediates from 8 - 9.45 p.m.....

WEDNESDAYS CLASS - Six Villages Sports Centre, Westergate!
Sorry about last weeks closure - the snow finally arrived (albeit a tad later than promised) and so we made the right decision to cancel the class after all - although I did miss you all very much!! Classes will be back to normal this week! (8th)

THURSDAY CLASS - Boxgrove Village Hall, The Street, Boxgrove
BRAND NEW INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CLASS OPENS THIS WEEK FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!!!!!!!!! (9th December)

The new hall is gorgeous with a beautiful shiny floor all ready for us to go and stomp on (shhh dont tell them I said that!)...and doors will be open from 7.15.....the class runs from 7.30 - 9.30....and costs £5 each - which will include scripts for all new dances taught....! Come and join Andy and myself on our opening night to learn three top class intermediate/advanced dances! There is a huge car park so please do pass on this message to all your interediate friends and encourage them to come along too.....please...lol!! As you turn off of the Boxgrove/Tangmere roundabout you will find yourself in a 30 mph zone in a road called The Street....carry on down it past the post office etc, until you see a perspex bus shelter on the left - the entrance to the Village Hall Car park is just before the bus shelter....look forward to seeing you there!

FIRDAYS CLASS - The Newell Centre - Chichester
Sorry about having to close this class too, but I had only got contact with the office at the Newell centre a few times a week and couldnt ask them before Friday morning what state the car park etc would be in, so thought it best to prevent any possible slips and slides by my lovely dancers around the venue and cancel the class. Class will be back to normal this week!

SATURDAY NIGHT (11th December) - CHICHESTER CHRISTMAS PARTY - NEWELL CENTRE! WITH WESTONLINE!!!
Please remember to bring along your 'plate to share' and your own drinks....we are going to maximise dance floor space by only having chairs out and no tables.....instead please take your plates straight into the kitchen area.....you will see a smaller hall with tables and chairs laid out as our 'dining hall' when you are peckish and if you want to sit and eat please do so in this smaller hall......of course if you wish you can bring a plate of food into the dance hall with you and balance it on your lap - its your choice!!! Andy and I just felt it would be nicer to have a bigger dance floor and hope that this idea works!! (never tried it before! so bear with us!)....

I hope you are all fit and well and raring to go this week!!??

Don't let a nip in the air put you off of coming out to dance your worries (and extra mince pies etc) away during the coming weeks - as we are a cure for the winter blues that's for sure!!

coming up soon are two Christmas Parties - Saturday 11th in The Newell Centre, Chichester (with Westonline - a few tickets are still available) and Monday 13th in Oak Lodge when we will be having a line dance disco!!

Both parties are BYO (drink) and a plate to 'share' with everyone.....if you are unsure of what to bring give me a call on 07799741288 and I will look down the lists for you to see what yummy goodies haven't been written down yet!

new for both parties is the PIGGY POT - WINNER TAKES ALL!!! Simply pay £1 for a raffle ticket and place your £1 coin in the PIGGY POT - at the end of the night - one single ticket will be drawn and WINNER TAKES ALL - POT INCLUDED!!!

Running alongside this will be a lovely Christmassy Raffle with Wine, choccies and a cuddly toy!! awwwwww! we do love a cuddly toy don't we!?

IMPORTANT NEWS RE THE NEW INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CLASS OPENING IN BOXGROVE!!

We are opening on THURSDAY DECEMBER 9TH and the class runs from 7.30 - 9.30.....its £5 per person (includning dance scripts for all dances taught)...and we cant wait to get this class started! The class will also be open on December 16th - and then after the festive break will re-open on January 6th...on a weekly basis.

HOWEVER!!! we are putting leaflets in doors around the whole of the chichester/Boxgrove area that has the first date on in as January 5th! this is because the leaflet drop will take place in the middle of December - BUT DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE NOT OPENING ON DEC 9TH OR 16TH!!! hehe....I hope I havent confused you too much more than normal?!

If you have written down that you would like tickets to our Christmas Party on Saturday Dec 11th in The Newell Centre, Tozer Way, Chichester - tickets will be on sale again tonight...so if possible please do bring along your pennies and collect yoru tickets. This party is completely SOLD OUT and people will not be allowed to pay on the door, and must have tickets beforehand.

tonight there will be a list by the door about food for the party - please write down what you would like to bring, so that we dont get drowned in sausage rolls, please take a look at what other people are bringing too...

Before you ask the 'M' stands for modern! haha - just thought Id see what it looks like :D hehe...

Ok - firstly I would like to let you know that all classes are running as normal this week despite it being Half Term...most of you dont have school aged children and all my venues were available and so I may as well open don't you think!?

So to clairfy:
Monday 6.30 - 9.45 - Oak Lodge primary School - Chamberlain Crescent, West Wickham,Kent. We cover all levels from beginner to intermediate in a progressive fashion - playing everyones favourite dances inbetween teaches!

Wednesday 6.30 - 9.45 - Six Villages Sports Centre - Westergate (opp petrol station), Lime Avenue... (near Fontwell/Chichester). Again, We cover all levels from beginner to intermediate in a progressive fashion - playing everyones favourite dances inbetween teaches!

Friday Afternoons - 1.15 to 2.45 p.m. - The Newell Centre - Tozer Way, Chichester (off St. Pancras - with large free car park!) Currently covering beginners/improvers until January when we will add a brand new Absolute Beginners class...

Saturday Afternoons - 1 - 4 p.m - The viking Music and Dance club - Bunn Leisure Holiday park, Selsey, West Sussex. 1 - 2 p.m. beginners - 2 - 4 improver thru to advanced dances taught....this is a FREE class and this coming Saturday (30th October) will sadly be our last one of the season as the park closes for the winter)

OTHER NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOURNEMOUTH TRIP!!!!

Please note that there has been a VAT increase imposed on the hotel which has unfortunately been passed on to everyone that has booked on the break, but it is only an extra £1 per night so please adjust your balance when writing your cheques to include an extra £2....I am very sorry about this, and did fight your corner for you but the hotel have said it's not something they have any control over either and we all have to pay the extra VAT as the increase takes place in January.

COACHES!!!

There are now TWO coaches going to Bournemouth - one is going from West Wickham/Beckenham in Kent directly to Bournemouth.

And the other one is going from Westergate with an additional collection point in chichester (precise locations to be decided...so please let me know if you have any good ideas for a coach to pick you up from, ideally in a wide enough road for your cars to be parked there for a weekend!)...all suggestions welcome!

Kellie and Lin will be taking care of the London dancers enroute to the hotel, handing out itineraries (and jokes so I believe!) and Linda and Jane (ably assisted by young Charley) will be taking care of West Sussex dancers.....on their journey to Bournemouth - again handing out itineraries and humour en route!

Andy & I will be at the hotel ready to greet you on arrival......suddenly February doesn't seem that far away does it?

CHRISTMAS PARTIES!!

Oak Lodge's party will be on December 13th...and will be a pure request night with added fun dances being taught, a raffle and as usual it will be bring your own drinks and a plate of nibbles to share (the list will be going out soon for you to write down what you would like to bring!) Entry is £5 each and is payable on the night....

Our Christmas party in West Sussex will be held at The Newell Centre, Tozer Way, Chichester....on Saturday December 11th......doors open at 7 p.m.....we have Westonline booked to come along and entertain us this evening, with all your requests being played by our very own DJ Andy inbetween sets.....we will also have a Crimbo raffle, and you can bring your own drinks and a plate of nibbles to share...this party is strictly BY TICKET ONLY!!!

Tickets will be going on sale this Saturday and to the people that have already written their names down on the 'reserved' list....as we have almost completely sold out - if you would like to come and havent written your name down, please contact me soon and I will see how many spaces are available...we are going to set the food up in the kitchen and only have chairs around the hall so as to maximise the dance floor space...luckily the venue has a separate room for people to sit at tables and eat if they so wish......tickets are £7.50 each.......

hello everyone!

Just a quickie today!

firstly YES WE ARE OPEN tonight in Oak Lodge....so see you there!

Secondly A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came to the Viking Party it was fab! Those of you who missed it, really need to try to get to the next one as we always have such a lot of fun at them!

Thirdly - my apologies - but the proposed new class starting on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 2ND has been CANCELLED!!! I have been informed that there are other classes operating on Tuesday evenings that clash with the times of the new class, and so as to not upset the applecart I am currently looking for a hall on a THURSDAY evening as originally planned. So sorry to keep messing about with this, but I was completely unaware that these other classes existed (trust me eh!? haha) and now I do I think it's only fair to do my best not to 'compete' with long running clubs for customers.

So do keep an eye on this page for updates on the new Intermediate/Advanced class and Ill try my best to find a venue in or around Chichester very soon.

FLASHMOB AT THE VIKING (and other things....)

Dear Dancers,

Firstly I have to say a huge THANK YOU to all the Viking crew for joining in yesterdays FLASHMOB for the worldwide film being made by Ira Weisburd..there were so many countries all over the world taking part in this phenomenom that I just couldnt bear the UK to be left out......and as I thought - the Viking dancers would be happy to be on film dancing for all the world to see !!! (They aren't shy is all I will say!)

Just watch them in action....the idea is that people 'standing around, or passing by' suddenly 'know' how to do a dance and randomly join in - keep watching the video as more and more people join in - we did this in one take with just a couple of minor 'variations' being danced....haha...

Other news:

Signing in for classes: As you know Kellie from Monday's class has moved away (sob sob) and we currently do not have anyone permanently 'on the door' to take the money or hand out raffle tickets....from tomorrow I will be trying a 'self service' method - including bingo balls (dont ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and the retirement of the 'raffle' being replaced by a 'Lucky Number Draw' instead.....oh dear - I have a feeling this could lead to a little bit of giggling - but give it a chance, and lets see if it works! haha...see you on Monday girls!!

Aldingbourne class moves to The Newell Centre permanently from this coming Friday (15th October)....

it is easy to find, just take the A27 to Chichester and head towards Sainsburys.....turn left at the roundabout and continue on that road over two mini roundabouts...just a short distance after the second roundabout you will see a road called Tozer Way on your left hand side, go down there and turn left again and then into the Newell Centre Car Park...you will find us in the hall ready to start the class at the newer slightly earlier time of 1.15.......for the time being only the 'Experienced Beginners/improvers' class will be running until we have time to re advertise in our new area. Again, a self service to paying on arrival will take place - along with those Bingo balls (as long as I havent lost any from Mondays class!)

CHANGE OF VENUE FOR FRIDAYS!

Dear Dancers,

NEWSFLASH RE ALDINGBOURNE - FRIDAY AFTERNOONS!
Hi there - if you are an Aldingbourne dancer you will know that the dancefloor has been severely water damaged this year. As I expected the hall is to close next week - so that this coming Friday 8TH OCTOBER will be our last session in the hall before we change venues!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our new venue is to be THE NEWELL CENTRE IN CHICHESTER - click here for the address and map http://www.chichester.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6779&contactid=8249 (if this link doesnt work please cut and paste the above link and put it in your search bar)

As this is a hall that is always in high demand it has not been possible to book it for a short space of time only so I have had to make the decision to move the class here for the foreseeable future. We have no real idea how long it would take to repair the floor in Aldingbourne, and also we have tried to improve the numbers at the hall recently with little success, moving the class back and forth between venues will only damage our numbers further - so I have taken the executive decision (get me!) to transfer to The Newell Centre indefinItely.....the hall is lovely, warm and much larger than Aldingbourne, affording us the chance to increase our numbers and taking away the threat of our small class closing down altogether.

I love our Friday afternoon classes as much as the evening classes - they are always such a good laugh and easy going - so please do let me know if you have any difficulty in getting to the Newell Centre and I will see if I can get you there myself! (I have a nice big car and come from Barnham).

I will be sad to leave Aldingbourne tho, we have had such laughs in there - but sometimes it's just better to cut your losses and move forwards - or onwards and upwards as they say! When we move across we will start with our current experienced beginner class from 1.15 TO 2.30 and leave the absolute beginners class out until we have had time to readvertise in this new area.

Lets all hope for good things for our two new classes - I have a feeling in my bones that it's all going to turn out for the best!!

NEW INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED LINE DANCE CLASS.....THURSDAY EVENINGS 7.30 - 9.30 P.M. CHICHESTER (VENUE TO BE CONFIRMED)

Please could you indicate if this is a class you would like to attend - Ive been asked by several people now to continue to run classes during the Viking's 'closed' season....and the only evening I am free to teach is a Thursday (so I hope it doesnt clash with anything else you do!)...the class will be totally aiimed at the very experienced dancer, with up to date intermediate/advanced dances ONLY being taught/danced.

This is not a class for the dancer that likes to do their old favourites every week (please come to Westergate on Wednesday evenings if that is what you prefer) mixed in with current dances. NO, THIS IS FOR THE HARDENED LINE DANCER ONLY! who likes to keep up to date with the latest and greatest dances to enable them to dance socailly anywhere in the world! Well the good news is that we are having an All Request Night tonight in Westergate from 6.30 - 9.45....come one come all!!

And the bad news is (for me anyway) that my voice still hasnt fully returned!! So it will be another appearance of 'SOOTY' at tonights class - aka me with a triangle to get your attention and a blackboard to write what's coming next on!!! I hope you all behave yourselves tonight.......haha.....Mondays class was one of the best ever (or so they told me) with a real party atmosphere....hmmm....Im wondering if maybe some of you LIKE the fact I can't talk!!!!?

Other news!

10 HOUR DANCEATHON AT BUTLINS - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 20TH

The latest news on this fund raising event is that there are no person aged under 18 allowed in Butlins grounds on that day!!!

I have put forward my feelings on this matter - as I think its a terrible shame that the younger dancers are being left out of this charity event - but have been reassured that it is NOT the choice of the organisers but instead of BUTLINS themselves!!! Apparently the weekend is being advertised to the general public as an 'adult only weekend' which sadly means that they will not allow anyone under that age to enter the site at all!

I am hoping that an alternative venue could be arranged for our younger dancers to take part in a Danceathon where they WILL be made welcome!! So watch this space!!

On Sunday 10th October we have been asked to do a little 'demo' as part of FONTWELL's family event that is taking place there...

If you are interested in coming along and dancing with us, then simply come along and meet up with me at FONTWELL HOUSE just before midday and we will have a little boogie either in the Tea Rooms or just outside in the grounds.......it is being used as a promotion towards the Danceathon taking place in Butlins the following month - we are just using it as an opportunity to A) show the public that line dancing is fun and B) have a boogie!!

Dear dancers!

I hope you all had a lovely summer and are all ready to learn some lovely new dances this September? I hope so, because I have a mix of old classics and new exciting dances to teach across all levels!

We returned to Six Villages Sports Centre last Wednesday - and had a very good turn out for the last week of the Summer Holiday - thank you to those that came along and joined in the fun!

Fridays classes in Aldingbourne have re-opened too - and we are very much looking forward to welcoming any BRAND NEW DANCERS ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER FROM 3 - 4 P.M.!!!

If you are reading this because you have seen the new class advertised, you dont need to book, simply come along to the class around ten minutes early to sign in and bring along a drink of water (or juice etc) and wear low heeled supportive shoes/boots/trainers and you are all set to begin!! Please do not wear flip flops or very loose fitting sandals, or any footwear with thick rubber soles as these will hinder your dancing and could be dangerous too....the new class is only £3 and will follow the existing Experienced Beginners class which takes place between 1.30 and 2.30.........Linda and I are very much looking forward to our new 'intake' and would like to remind you that accompanied children over 8 are also welcome to take part in the class.

Mondays class returns to OAK LODGE from Monday September 6th at the usual times......the breakdown of the class is thus:

6.30 - 7.30 Experienced Beginners £4
7.30 - 8.30 Improver/easy intermediate £4

You may prefer to come along for an hour crossing over two of these classes, for instance 7 - 8 p.m. this will cost £4 and will cover classic beginner/improver dances

Saturday afternoons: I run a free class for the holidaymakers on Bunn Leisures Caravan Park in Selsey - the lessons run from 1 - 4 p.m. and local and visiting line dancers are also allowed to come along.......beginner dances are taught between 1 - 2 and improver/intermediate/advanced dances are taught between 2 - 4 p.m. why not stay on for the evening when we have live music to line dance to some of the top bands on the circuit!? Just a little note to remind you all that classes are all running this week as follows :-

MONDAY NIGHT FROM 6.30 - The assembly halls, Gates Green Road, West Wickham - times and prices as normal! (next week - 23rd - will be a request/party night - so tell and bring all your line dance friends to come along too!)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT FROM 6.30 - Six Villages Sports Centre - Westergate - This week (19th) is a Request/party night - so please tell/bring all your line dance friends to bring along some drink and a few nibbles for your own tables please!) There is NO class on the 25th....but we are back to normal the first Week in September - with brand new dances to the class! whoo hoo!! :)

FRIDAY AFTERNOON FROM 1.30 P.M. - Aldingbourne Sports and Social Club - Oliver's Meadow...Westergate - please note there is no class the following week ( 27th) but we are back to normal the week after with new dances for our BRILLIANT group of beginner's who have now been promoted to IMPROVERS!! whooo hooo!!!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FRIDAYS CLASS!! tonight is our last night in Oak Lodge until September...BUT for the following FIVE WEEKS we are running classes in The Assembly Halls, Gates Green Road, Coney Hall, West Wickham, Kent. BR4 9JW instead..

class times and prices are as normal...there is additional parking behind the building if you find the car park full on arrival - just take the small driveway down the right hand side of the car park instead.....

We return this Wednesday ( 21st July) to the sports centre (where all classes will run from now on) if you dont see the sign outside the school hall it only means Ive stopped bringing it and the class is on anyway!!!!!

ITS SUMMER PARTY WEEK !!!!!

Tomorrow night (Monday 5th July) at Oak Lodge we are having our stars and stipes themed summer party - complete with a free Pimms on arrival and all your requests played all night long !

Please bring along your own drinks, and a small plate of nibbles to share with the class...

Doors open at 7 p.m. and we party through until 9.45!

Then on Tuesday at Westergate Community School its your turn to join in the fun with your own Summer Party!!

PERMANENT VENUE CHANGE! WEDNESDAYS!

Dear dancers,

I am pleased to announce that we are moving permanenty into the Six Villages Sports Centre as from tomorrow night....following several difficulties with the hiring of the Westergate School Hall, we have decided that we need more stability and are now going to be using the Wyatt Studio on the ground floor (Aerobics Hall) permanently - it is more suitable for dancing as it has a sprung dance floor and air conditioning - and can continue through the school holidays without interruption!

The only date we are using the school hall on is TUESDAY JULY 6TH when we are having our Summer Party!!!

THE VIKING PARTY THIS WEEKEND!

Hi everyone - just a little note about Saturdays lessons at the Viking - due to this weekend being a 'party' weekend - my lessons are at 10.45 - 1 p.m. on both Saturday and sunday mornings. If you are a viking regular the lesson is free as normal, if you are staying on however for the live music that begins at 1 p.m. t...he charge is £10........for any queries on the viking party please call Colin at the club.....

The line up for the party weekend is:-

Fri Night - from 6.30 p.m. - Tony Rouse and Cross Country
Sat afternoon from 1 p.m.- Joe Mitchell
Sat night from 6.30 p.m. Jellico Road (replacing Stawberry Mules) and Blood Brothers
Sun afternoon from 1 p.m.- Cheyenne
Sunday night from 6.30 p.m. Broadcaster and Texas Tornados

Each individual session is £10 - or come to all five sessions for only £40...

Just a little update on classes over the next couple of weeks..

MONDAYS IN OAK LODGE

Class is on as normal tomorrow - I will be bringing along a nice big fan as the weather is so hot at the mo!

There will be no class the following Monday due to it being a Bank Holiday.....class is back the week after as usual.

Date for your diaries!! MONDAY JULY 5TH - IS SUMMER PARTY NIGHT! The theme is 'STARS AND STRIPES' and we will be having our usual Pimms and be playing all your requests all night....we have decided not to have live music this year, as it appears that the majority of this class like to dance to the tracks they have learned the dances too - but i will be throwing in a couple of fun dances for all levels to take part in instead!! whoopie do I hear you all cry!! If possible could everyone please bring along a plate of nibbles to share with the class - there will be a list by the door nearer the time for you to write your selection on.....there will also be a Summer themed raffle!

WEDNESDAYS IN WESTERGATE

this Wednesday (May 26th) the class will be held behind the school in the sports centre......the following week the class will be back in the school hall!

On Wednesday July 7th - there will be NO CLASS!!! instead on TUESDAY JULY 6TH we will be having OUR SUMMER PARTY NIGHT in the school hall!!

Please write this change of days in your diaries..!!

We have been lucky enough to book the lovely Steve Riley (of Westcoasters fame!) as your live entertainment for the night..........he has been working hard on including more current dance tracks into his playlist and is always such good fun to have around, we can promise you a great nights dancing!

Please bring along a plate to share - there will be a list by the door nearer the time for you to write your selection down on....The theme for the party is

STARS AND STRIPES!!! so go as YEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! as you like!

What's happening in the Katz Line Dance Club....all classes......please read on!

Well I dont know about anyone else but I missed our Monday class last night!! True, I was glad of the opportunity to have a lovely day out with Andy, and a rest from three very very late nights at the Viking, but still it doesn't feel right not dancing on a Monday night!!

We are back to normal next week in Oak Lodge! Look forward to a dance called GLEEHAB!!! Which will be taught in the 8.30 class!

Dances being taught/reviewed in all classes at the moment include:

BLACK VELVET, LET'S CHILL, JUST A MEMORY, COUNTY LINE CHA CHA, CHICA BOOM BOOM, WALKING IN THE RAIN, GAVE IT ALL AWAY, YOU AND I, DREAM OF YOU, LOVE YA, QUARTER AFTER ONE, RHYME OR REASON, BOBBI WITH AN I, GLEEHAB and RAH RAH OOH LA LA!

Obviously not all dances are taught in all classes - dances are picked specifically to suit the 'level' of each class - the dances listed range in ability from Absolute Beginner to advanced......! (my poor brain! haha - to say nothing of my poor legs!!)

Wednesday's class was successful last week! Hurray! - the hall was lovely and clean (just washed in fact!) and there was plenty of floor space for us still despite the recent addition of retractible seating! Tomorrow's class (5th May) is on as normal. Starting at 6.30 with Beginners....!

Friday's class was lots of fun last week, we saw the return of a few familiar faces who have been away on holiday which boosted the numbers very nicely thank you! I LOVE this class on Fridays - its beginner level only - but we have such a nice atmosphere in Aldingbourne Hall that it would be a shame to lose it due to low numbers.....I am going to keep the class going as long as possible, and will do another leaflet drop to encourage new dancers for September! There is a possiblity of adding on an Absolute Beginners class AFTER the existing class finishes at 2.45......should be interesting! Maybe we could get some mums and their children to come along at 3 p.m.? hmmmm (thinks that one over......!)

Anyway, the class will continue for the foreseeable future is what I am trying to say - 1.30 - 2.45 p.m. every Friday - in Aldingbourne Sports and Social Club!

Saturday Afternoon - 1 - 4 p.m. The Viking Selsey!!

The class is once again FREE OF CHARGE this season - and is open to anyone that wants to come - 1 - 2 p.m. is beginners with intermediate splits/requests....and 2 - 4 p.m. is improver/intermediate/advanced level....

SUMMER PARTIES!!!

I am planning on having Summer parties again this year on your regular club nights ......

MONDAY 5TH JULY - OAK LODGE PRIMARY SCHOOL - We are having the party early this year before everyone disappears off on holiday!! Instead of live music this year we will have a themed request night - with two party dances being taught by moi instead ! I think that this class prefers the comfort of dancing to songs they know and love, and always love a good party dance or two during the evening....I will be there to guide you on the dance floor the whole evening with pre-planned split floors to keep the beginners up and dancing all night alongside their intermediate friends! This year's theme is 'STARS AND STRIPES!!' (make of that what you will!!!) Anything adorned with Red, White and Blue goes.....let's yehaaa it up a bit shall we!!? hehe!!

WEDNESDAY 7TH JULY - WESTERGATE SCHOOL - with live music to dance to!! (watch this space for the name of the artist over the next week or two!)The theme for the evening will be the same as Mondays class!! 'STARS AND STRIPES!!!' YEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA!!! hehe........I know I can expect the most fabulous of outfits from all classes! Our Friday afternoon dancers will be invited along to the Wednesday night BIG SUMMER PARTY so get thinking about those outfits peeps!!! (fancy dress is, as always, optional but lots of fun if we all join in!)

(both parties will be on a Bring Your Own Drinks and a plate to share basis) More details in class coming soon!

Now as it is American Indpendence Day on July 4th - I think the SATURDAY AFTERNOON CLASS IN SELSEY would love to join in the STARS AND STRIPES! theme on Saturday July 3rd!!!???!!! Am I right? or am I right?!

WEDDING UPDATE - As Andy and are are getting married the week before our annual trip to Bournemouth and it's looking like most of our dancers are coming on the holiday, we thought it would be nice to make the Friday night a bit of a party to celebrate our nuptials with our dancers! Maybe you could think about a nice 'wedding guest' style outfit to wear for Friday nights meal when we would like to share in a glass of champagne with all of you! And we will save the 'cutting of the cake' for Friday too - just so that you can all witness it happen!

UPDATE ON THE WESSEX HOTEL - BOURNEMOUTH - 18 - 20 FEB 2011

All singles spaces without a supplement have now been filled!!! Thank you to everyone that has booked on this trip so far - we have been amazed at how quickly places have sold and are so thrilled that you are coming along!

We have 15 coach spaces left...so if you need transport from Beckenham or Aldingbourne please do let me know quickly...

If you haven't yet posted off your deposits to us, please could you do so soon so that I can give the hotel definate numbers and to secure your room.

Remember upgrades from the standard rooms (which incidentally are lovely!) are available - all details are in the booking letters! If you need a copy please do let me know and Ill bring them along to your class...so far we have handed out over 100 copies of the forms! Our highest demand holiday to date! THANK YOU!

Dear Dancers,

Just a quickie!!

first of all my apologies for the Westergate School Hall being unusable last week. I have been reassured that it WILL be clean and ready for us tomorrow...HOWEVER!!! should I arrive there and it isn't ready we will be going around the back of the school in to the aerobics hall as we did in a hurry last week!!

I do hope no one thought we weren't there last week - because we were - just slightly out of sight! Despite our best efforts (mainly Janes!!!) we do know a few people missed the hastily written sign stuck on the school door and drove away...

Please do come along tomorrow and look out for a sign on the hall doors if you cannot see anyone in the hall - we WILL be in the sports centre - one minute away BEHIND the school instead!!

I dunno - what a kerfuffle!!!!!!

TRIP TO BOURNEMOUTH UPDATE!!!!

I have no one left on my reserved list now for a single place, so the 17th and final supplement free single place is up for grabs on a first come first served basis!!! All other singles booking after this place has gone will unfortunately have to pay an extra £20 for the trip....which is only £10 per night - so not so bad if you look at it that way!

Back to normal! (for a while!)..Week beginning April 19th....

Dear Dancers,

What a lovely sunny day it is today! I am very much looking forward to teaching tonight - and starting the class is daylight is a complete joy!!

Before I get started on the class news I would just like to make an announcement on here that Andy and I are engaged to be married!!!

We got engaged last weekend - and I have a beautiful diamond ring to flash at you when we next see eachother!

We are planning a small family wedding early next year in Arundel - and a HUGE PARTY FOR EVERYONE WE KNOW two weeks later - and if you are a member of my classes - that will include YOU!! Invitations will be handed out nearer the time in my classes!!

Thank you to everyone that has given us a card - they are all beautiful and are gathering nicely on top of all the cabinets in the house (perhaps I should put up my Christmas card string????!!!)

Ok, so now on to class news...

Monday - Oak Lodge class

Tonight (April 19th 2010) - class is on as normal - Beginners from 6.30 - everyone else from 7.30....

Class we be on as normal next week too (26th April) but on MONDAY MAY 3RD THERE WILL BE NO CLASS AS ITS A BANK HOLIDAY!!! oooops!!! Sorry didnt mean to shout!!

Wednesday - Westergate School - class....

This week we return to our regular venue with every hope of seeing all of our beginners again!!! We missed you over the past two weeks, so please do pop along and see us this week if you can!!

We need to send a huge THANK YOU to Bognor Regis Football Club for putting up with us for the past two weeks, it was a lovely venue to use and we hope to return there sometime in the future for the occasional party night!

We had originally planned to use Bognor Football Club again on May 12th and 26th - but we have been offered the lovely aerobics halls in Six Villages Sports Centre (just behind Westergate school) on those two evenings and have jumped at the opportunity to use it!!

There are NO class closures at Westergate for the foreseeable future.......!!! Whoo hooo!!!!

Class times are from 6.30 for Beginners, and from 7.30 for everyone else....

Friday - Aldingbourne - class.....

There are no closures planned for this class - class times are currently 1.30 - 2.45 for the exisiting beginners class - if you are an absolute beginner and would like to put your name down for when the next ab class begins please call Julie on 07799742188 and let me know your details, so I can send you a leaflet when the time comes (most likely to start in September).

SATURDAY AFTERNOONS IN SELSEY...

I am continuing to teach at the Viking music and dance club in Selsey each and every Saturday afternoon from 1 - 4 p.m. this is a FREE class - you dont need to book - just turn up and join in! Beginner dances and intermediate requests are played between 1 - 2 p.m. From 2 - 4 p.m. its improver/intermediate/advanced all the way!

so why not come and join us one Saturday an soak up the atmosphere of the best saloon bar in West Sussex - we are situated on Green lawns caravan park in Selsey - part of the Bunn Leisure Group....you will find the entrance to Green Lawns on your right just after you cross the mini roundabout heading into Selsey - just past the police station!

Please note that the Viking is licensed premises and you are not allowed to bring your own food and drink into the class. As a sign of your appreciation for this FREE class, please do buy at least one drink from across the bar.

why not stay in Selsey after the class and go for a meal in town, and later come back and join us for an entire evening of social line dancing to live music? Doors open at 6.30 - and we party on til 1 a.m. (or later!!!!) every single Saturday throughout the season! It only costs £7 on the door....where else can you go on a Saturday night for around 7 hours entertainment? Not the cinema thats for sure!! If you want to bring your non dancing relations/children with you - the club also has a games room and small bar with wide screen t.v.'s to keep them occupied whilst you dance the night away!!

This Sunday at Aldingbourne Sports and Social club sees an all day event of fun and frolics!! There will be many stalls and displays from different groups that use the Aldingbourne venue - plus loads to see and do all day long....take a listen to Spirit f.m. all week for more details...I have been asked to join in the fun by teaching line dancing to the (again) unsuspecting public from 3.40 p.m.!! Come and find me in the outside arena (probably on a stage!) and I will play a few of your fave dances so we can demonstrate how much fun linedancing can be!!

It looks set to be a great day out - doors open at 10 a.m.....hope to see you there!!

Just a few little newsy bits for you all to read today...

THE DAFFODIL DANCE - UPDATE!

Between all four classes we managed to raise a grand total of £190.00 for the Marie Curie cancer care fund.....thank you all so much for joining in with good spirirs and by buying Daffodil pins and in some cases cakes as well! Brilliant! I will posting the cheque off to them shortly.....

CLASS CLOSURES/CHANGES OVER EASTER...

There will be NO classes on either Good Friday (April 2nd) or Easter Monday (April 5th. Classes return to normal the following week.

IMPORTANT INFO RE WEDNESDAY NIGHTS - WESTERGATE CLASS!

On April 7th and 14th Westergate school hall is being altered, and we are unable to use their premises. but dont panic, we are lucky enough to have secured the use of the brand new club house of BOGNOR REGIS FOOTBALL CLUB on both weeks!

Times and prices are the same as usual - please do note that the club are licensed premises, and have a bar, so you are required to purchase at least one drink from over the bar and are not allowed to bring in any drinks of your own, including water. The hall is lovely - with a small stage and attractive surroundings - Im sure you wont be disappointed when you see it!

The football club is situated in Nyewood Lane, Bognor Regis...click here for a view of the road http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl the entrance to the Club is opposite Normanton Road.

Additonally there are two further dates in May that we have just been told we are unable to use at Westergate School - they are May 12th and 26th.....luckily the Football club have just agreed to allow us to use their clubhouse again!

Please do check back on here before April 21st for an update on the size of Westergates school hall - although we have been reassured that after the new seating has been installed there will be enough room for us to dance, I will be taking a look at the floor BEFORE we go back to the school on Wednesday 21st April, and if there are any problems, this is where I will report it to you all.

Mad March Party and other news...week beg: 15th March 2010

Dear Dancers,

This Friday sees the start of the first of THREE 'party' weekends at The Viking Music and Dance Club in Selsey, West Sussex.....

A ticket for all five sessions of live music/teaching costs only £40...or you can pay on the door for each individual session at £10 each!

The doors open at 6.30 p.m. on Friday 19th - we have live music from The Thrillbillies and Alan Gregory with our very own DJ Andy playing all your requests late into the night...

Saturday morning - doors open at 10.30 a.m. for the first of two dance workshops run by myself! I will be teaching a mix of dances to suit improvers and intermediates alike!

My workshop will be followed by live music and dancing from 1 p.m. til 4.30 p.m. from American Spirit - so why not come along for the lesson and stay all day!?

Doors re open at 6.30 p.m. for another evening of great live entertainment, this time from Broadcaster and Cajun Moon!

Sunday mornings workshop will be followed by live music from Richard Palmer..

And the final evening of this action packed weekend will finish us off nicely with Live music from the Texas Tornados and Livewire!!!!

Why not come down and join in the fun? As I mentioned at the beginning - tickets for the whole three days (five sessions in all) costs only £40....or individual tickets for each session are £10 each!

Because of the Mad March party there will be no free line dance lessons this weekend of course - if you cant make our special weekend - then Ill look forward to seeing you at 1 p.m. the following Saturday as usual.

Other news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have tried two weeks of intermediate classes at Aldingbourne Sports and Social Club and have decided that we need to advertise more if this is to take off with any success - so with that in mind, I am sorry to say that from THIS FRIDAY 19TH MARCH we will be reverting to Beginners only from 1.30 - 2.45....

There will be no intermediate class at Aldingbourne from now on until we get our advertising sorted out!! Sorry to disappoint but there is little point in running classes for a handful of people. Thank you to those of you that have come along to see us, and I will see you on either Wednesday Nights or Saturday afternoons as usual.

DAFFODIL DANCE WEEK - NEXT WEEK!!!

From this Saturday I will be teaching this years 'Daffodil Dance' 'Walking in the rain - by Maggie G' in all classes...I have some yellow daffodil pin badges to sell for £1 each on behalf of the Marie Curie Cancer Care team.....and any other donations will be very welcome also!!

What Im trying to say is - if you want to learn the dance - YOU GOTTA PAY TO DO SO!! haha!!!

Its all in a good cause - and if you fancy wearing something yellow to make the event even more spring like then that would be fab too!!

WESTERGATE CLOSURES - ALTERNATIVE VENUE INFO

THE VIKING RE-OPENS THIS SATURDAY MARCH 6TH, AND OTHER NEWS!

Dear Dancers,

Well that time is here again! It's time for the Viking to re-open for the 2010 season!

We kick off proceedings for the line dancers at 1 p.m. in the Viking Music & Dance Club, Green Lawns Caravan Park, Selsey, West Sussex with a return to FREE LINE DANCE LESSONS!!

Beginners are most welcome between 1 and 2 p.m. from 2 - 4 p.m. it's improver/intermediate/advanced dancers that we cater for!

This week's new teaches include:

DREAM OF YOU - by Teresa & Vera - written to All I do is dream of you - by Michael Buble

and (due to demand!)

YOU AND I - by Oli Geir and Hungrun from Iceland - written to Someday by Hera Bjork
This is a high intermediate phrased line dance written in two parts - it's not as tricky as it may at first appear and has been very popular in many linedance clubs during the winter.....

I will also be teaching a variety of other dances, to suit all levels!

Please do remember that as this is a FREE class you will be required to purchase at least one drink from across the bar as a sign of your appreciation, and may we gently remind you that you must not bring in you own drinks or food into these licensed premises.

The class ends at 4 and the doors will re open at 6.30 for you evening of line dancing to LIVE music, this week to CROSS COUNTRY, and to all your requests played by the best line dance DJ in the UK - DJ Andy D.......

Unfortunately there will be no reviews at 6.30 this year, as I will am not able to be there to run them. But I will be there a little later in the evening to help you from the front of the dance floor if you need someone to follow!

If you are one of the people that previously enjoyed the free reviews, I can only apologise and cheekily suggest that you try to come to the afternoon class instead!!!!

We are adding in an extra class for intermediates who might like a daytime class in the Chichester/Bognor area - Aldingbourne is just a short drive from both towns and is held in Aldingbourne Sports and Social Club in Olivers Meadow, Westergate. We are so pleased to announce that we have managed to secure a beautiful hotel in Bournemouth for the weekend 18 - 20th February next year - we would have liked to have gone in November this year, but due to the hotels huge popularity it was fully booked until February next year! WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!

Dear Dancers,

Well I've just about recovered enough to find the energy to post on here, following our trip to Devon this past weekend!!!!

I can only speak from my own point of view of course, but I thought it was loads of fun!!

The Durrant House Hotel lived up to its expectations, thats for sure, with marble bathrooms and the most beautiful panelled ballroom with its own private bar - you couldnt fault our surroundings.

Friday saw the weekend kick off with Andy playing all your requests, the grand raffle and the poster quiz!

We were so pleased to be able to have plenty of room to allow some local Bideford line dancers to join us, and quickly made friends with this group of lovely people, who I hope we get to meet up again with at some point in the future.

LOVE YA – LOVE ME – JUSTIN BIEBER – 64 COUNT INTERMEDIATE DANCE BY KATE SALA & ROBBIE MCGOWAN HICKIE (DEC 2010) – FUNKY POP MUSIC – this is a fast version of the song from Romeo & Juliet – some interesting steps in this one will keep you thinking....not too turny!

RHYME OR REASON – IT HAPPENS – SUGARLAND – 32 COUNT IMPROVER LEVEL DANCE BY RACHAEL MCEANEY (FEB 2010) COUNTRY ROCK – a brilliant fast little country dance – I have a feeling this one will be around all year!

I postponed a teach of BROKEN HEELS (which will be taught in some classes shortly) to allow time for Lesley (our impromtu guest instructor) to teach YOU AND I a phrased line dance that was requested by a few of the dancers - she did a brilliant job of teaching this one - and I can confirm it will be re taught by myself at the Viking on our return to the club on March 6th. If demand is high enough I will teach it in other classes too. Personally I didnt find it as hard as some people had suggested it was - as the dance flows very nicely and doesnt have any tricky steps to learn - just lots of them!

Our live entertainment came in the form of PLAIN LOCO on Saturday night - and ALAN GREGORY on Sunday night - both acts were brilliant and kept the dancers happy and smiling!

Andy did a fantastic job of djing all weekend, and I would publically like to thank him for all his hard work on what was technically his week off work!!

Sunday afternoon was hilarious! Just in case the weather was against us, I decided it would be a good idea to have a contingency plan to keep the troops entertained - I thought they might be a little tired of dancing by then, and so came up with a few 'games' to while the time away instead..

First up was musical chairs - Andy played Zorbas dance for the 20 brave folk who turned up to 'run' around the chairs to, and it was what I can only call 'a spectacle' to see!!!! hehe - our winner was Shirley - after Ian graciously stood aside for her to sit down - bless you Ian (not that you had much choice as your wife was hissing at you from the sidelines to 'do the right thing!' haha

Next up was the Bin Bag Fashion Show - in which teams were given two black and two white bags - five safety pins - one pair of scissors to share between all teams - and a time limit of 15 minutes to design an outfit....the results were amazing!!!! The photos will be shown in classes, and when Andy gets time - an album of all photos will be put on our website www.linedancingevents.com

the winners were Sally and Sue - with their chic number which included an inflatable handbag!! well done everyone for taking part in this - I thought it was brilliant!

After the quiz (won by Debbie, Isabel and Teresa - well done) it was time to judge the 'balloon art' competition....at the precise moment we were doing this poor old Alan Gregory arrived and was plunged into judging said competition along with his equally dumfounded wife Jackie......again - photos to follow - but the entries included 'salmon in a boat' 'Kat - and the name K A T Z ' 'caterpillar' 'Dame Edna and her dog - (eh? lol)' and the winner 'windsurfer, complete with 'balancing instrument!'......it was a surreal moment - but one that I will treasure forever! well done Lisa and crew for winning with 'Kat'....a thank you to my son Daniel and his girlfriend Nikki who had popped in to visit us who took part in the games with enthusiasm (and a little bit of bewilderment too!)

The fancy dress 'Gangsters and Molls' was spectacular - the theme suited the ballroom perfectly, and all the ladies looked wonderful in their feather boa's and flappers dresses - the gangsters werent half bad either!! Sally won first prize for going against the norm and coming along as a male gangster - complete with painted on moustache - which part of me wickedly wanted to see still painted on the next morning - alas - she managed to get it off - so no photo of that then!!

I have to add a special thank you to viv for looking after our London dancers on the Beckenham to Aldingbourne leg of the journey.

Theres an extra special thank you to Maxine for being so helpful with the balloon pump and sellotape on Saturday afternoon! I had come up with an idea for a centrepiece for each round dining table made of balloons - which didnt 'quite' work - after much laughter with Andy and Lesley there helping too, we came up with a splint to hold the whole thing upright!! we were reasonably happy with the results - until dinner came and then we realised no one could see their friends on the other side of the tables at the balloons were in the way!!!! The head waiter came to our rescue with upturned silver ice buckets to stand the displays on!! oh well, we tried!!! next time Im buying helium and done with it!!!

Thank you to Linda for all her hard work on the admin side of this trip, and for selling the raffle tickets for me on Friday night, and also to Kellie, who is always a big help in my classes - both girls dont bat an eyelid when I come up with my next hairbrained scheme and just smile and get on with whatever I ask of them - thank you very much girls - you help is very much appreciated!

We have had great feedback for the trip so far - and lots of people have asked to be included on our next weekend break which we hope will be in late November or early December....we have decided NOT to go to Torquay this year - we feel that the hotel is over priced, and too far away for a two night break....keep watching this space as Andy and I do our research to find you yet another fab hotel - but this time - within easy reach of all clubs.

Many thanks for coming on our break, and if you are one of my dancers that usually comes along and didnt make this one, I did miss you in case you are thinking I didnt! hehe

All classes are running normally at the moment - the only other news is that on Friday March 5th - I am adding in an hours Intermediate class in our Aldingbourne venue - 2.30 - 3.45 if you are interested. Details are on our website www.linedancingevents.com just click on 'classes' for the address.

Week beginning February 15th 2010

Dear Dancers - we are OPEN on Monday and Wednesday this week as normal, despite it being half term!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought Id get that bit in first!!

OPEN!!!! haha

but as we are off on our weekend break to Devon this coming Friday - there will unfortunately be no classes on Friday 19th in Aldingbourne, or on the following Monday 22nd in Oak Lodge.

For those of you coming along on the trip, you should all have received details of where to catch the coach now, and if you are a self driver you will be receiving your itineraries in the next couple of days - please remember to bring them along to the hotel with you as you will need to refer to them during your stay.

Andy and I are very much looking forward to this additional weekender with Plain Loco and Alan Gregory and are busy getting things ready to make it a fab weekend for you all!!

If you are not coming along this time, but now wish you were, we have a couple of seats left on the coach and would be more than happy to add you in - all you have to do is ask!

January 2010 - LETS GET FIT!!

Dear dancers - potential NEW dancers!

The good news is that the snow has gone - the classes are open - and theres a feeling of Spring in the air (ok - so I know thats a little optimistic but I DO have a few daffs trying to force their way through in the garden!)

With all that in mind - I'm sure you will agree its time to get back to dancing and get back to feeling fit and healthy once more!

For details of all the Katz classes simply go to www.linedancingevents.com and click on 'classes' there you will see the venues - areas - times and levels of all of the classes on offer from our club.

Linedancing is suitable for just about everyone - from 8 - 80 - linedancing can be adapted to suit everyone. Dancing without a partner has huge benefits, firstly you can dance as much or as little as you like without worrying that you are having to 'keep up' with a partner.....or even worse, having to 'slow down' for your partner....you can do it at your own pace, take a break when you need to - or add extra bouncy steps, spins or body pops (yeah - ok maybe not all of you but the teenagers like to do it!) to your dancing to make it as energetic as possible!

This is a special message to everyone that has previously been to our classes and for one reason or another hasn't been for a while - there is NO need to feel you have fallen behind. in linedancing there are new routines being added on a regular basis - older dances are often walked through before the music is put on, and within a couple of weeks you will be up and dancing as much as everyone else, so why not come back to class and join in the fun once more? You are always guaranteed a warm welcome thats for sure!

We like linedancing to be fun in our classes - and there is NO competitiveness AT ALL in any of my classes - we just dont attract those kind of people Im pleased to say - everyone is friendly, welcoming and is there for the same reasons as your are...

1. To have fun
2. To dance to good music of all genres
3. To get a bit fitter and burn off some calories!

Thats about it!

The only requirements needed to be able to start to line dance is to know left from right (ish) and to be able to count to 8!! I promise you, you will be up and dancing within minutes of the class starting - and each week you come back you will be dancing for longer and longer periods of time...

There is only ONE word of warning I will have to let you know about...

LINEDANCING IS ADDICTIVE!!! Once you start, you wonder what you did with your time before, and will want all your friends to join in the fun too....we organise social nights - charity nights - and weekend breaks - where we dance the weekend away!

So, what are you waiting for?

Take a look at those classes and come and join us as soon as you can - all you need bring is a bottle of water and to wear low heeled supportive footwear - possibly trainers to start with....as for clothes? well its not all yehaa anymore so anything goes...jeans and a t shirt is fine....anything you feel comfortable wearing in fact!

Dancing is on! Friday 15th Jan!!

Dear dancers,

good news!!

despite the overnight light snowfall, the school is open!! whoop whoop!!

I will be bringing along booking letters and info re the upcoming trip to Devon and would ask that if possible could you please bring along your deposits tonight?

Its £20 per person. Thank you.

If however you cannot get to tonights class, yet are pencilled in on the trip (and more importantly on the coach) please give me a quick ring on 07799741288 or email me on julieandthekatz@msn.com to let me know you still would like your place.

Dear Dancers!

I hope to be running all three classes this week - but can only be sure on the actual day of the class in question.

I have no control over whether the venues are going be open on a particular day or not and so will have to ring them on the actual day the class is about to take place.

Tomorrow (Monday 12th Jan) I will phone Oak Lodge to see if the school is open.

IF is it (fingers crossed) then the class WILL go ahead. I have to come to West Wickham regardless tomorrow on family buisiness and will be in the area, so if the hall IS open I will be too!!

Check back tomorrow lunchtime for an update please....

Also, Im thinking of setting you all a little 'homework'... those of you who are around this evening please do check back to see what I 'home work' I have set you to do!

I am very sorry but after talking to Helen at the Aldingbourne Hall, it has been decided that the car park and side roads are too icy to cross, making it foolish to open the class today.

I am getting a little bit stir crazy now I have to admit! If these conditions continue into next week I may have to start running 'ad hoc' classes in other halls with easier access until things improve....so with that in mind

Dear Dancers,

You will probably not have even thought about dancing tonight, but just in case, I thought Id let you know that the class is not on due to a few inches of snow.....I wont tell you my thoughts about how useless I think this country is at keeping businesses open but all I will say is Im not happy!

The school has been closed for the day, and the sports centre (who could let me in), are not answering their phones, which can only lead me to believe that they are also shut. They should of course have rung me out of courtesy to let me know the situation - but as they haven't its better to assume there is no one there and cancel rather than turn up and be disappointed (and wet)....

Dear Dancers,

I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and that you are not suffering too much from the after effects of a wonderful New Year's Eve today!?

Thank you once again for all your lovely Chrissy pressies and cards - I havent had that many cards since I was at school! Its Fab and makes me feel loved !

Just a little reminder that classes start back next Monday (4th Jan) so I hope you are all in the mood to shift a few of those mince pies and Quality Street as I am most definately ready for a bit of aerobic exercise!

Luckily Andy bought me a Wii-fit plus for Christmas and I am also going to be trying to get my stamina up to par using that every day as well, after my long illness Im so incredibly unfit I need all the help I can get!!!

All times and prices of the classes will remain unchanged this year, unless the hall rentals rise they will stay the same for the whole of 2010!

Linedancing is probably the cheapest form of exercise/dance class around - with 45 minutes Belly dancing costing £7.50 in the West Wickham area, I strongly recommend to continue coming to me for lessons hahaha!

So, I will see you in your classes next week on the following dates:

Monday 4th - Oak Lodge
Wednesday 6th - Westergate School
Friday 8th - Aldingbourne Social Club

I will also have with me the booking forms for our forthcoming trip to Devon this February - so if you would like to bring along a £20 deposit each that would be most helpful, and get the ball rolling.

Deposits need to be sent to the hotel by me by the 18th January - with the balance needing to paid to me by 1st February. The coach has only 10 seats remaining - so if you haven't yet given me your name as an interested party please do so now by sending me an email to julieandthekatz@msn.com

It's CHRISSSSTTTTMAAAASSS!!!!

Dear Dancers,

Can you believe it's almost the end of 2009 already?! We have just ONE more class this year - and thats THIS Wednesday, 23rd December in Westergate.

We had three lovely parties last week - the balloon challenge was an eye opener! (Photos to follow....) I just want to end the year with a summing up of what has been a great year for me of linedancing and fun......

What a great year I have had dancing with all of you lovely people! I consider myself to be incredibly lucky to be in the position of running classes full of such lively fun loving people. Each and every one of you are important to me, I look forward to seeing your smiley faces before each class opens!

Im not just saying this to butter you up either! I truly mean it - my lovely 'London' crew, with incredible people like Kellie, Christine, Suzannah, Debbie, Isabel, Lisa, Viv, Pat, Jean, Linda-Carol and Carol-Linda, Sarah Lou and Paige, Jeanette, Diane and their gorgeous daughters and the rest! And our brilliant 'early class' dancers such as Doreen, Vera, Rene, Brenda, Eileen and Claire.......how could I fail to smile on a Monday morning when I wake up and know that later in the day I'm going to be greeted by a mass of smiling, cheerful easy going brilliant people?

Some people have questioned my sanity about continuing the class in West Wickham - wondering why I would want to drive so far every week to carry on teaching you. Well, Ive just answered that one everyone - because I LOVE THEM!!

Thank you all so much for your cards and prezzies, Ive been very good and they are still wrapped up under my slightly ad hoc Christmas tree, waiting for me to open them on Christmas morning !

When I started up my class in Westergate (originally in Phillip Howard School) I was nervous about it, not knowing how I would be accepted into this new community. I needn't have worried for one second as the people that joined the class on Wednesday nights turned out to be just as fun loving as I was!!!! With people like Linda, Jane and her lovely daughter Charley, Jane-Kate and Kate-Jane, Chris from the Barnham Bridge Inn, all our lovely little dancers that make up my front row! Mick, Liz, Kim, Richard, the very quiet and sensible Julie and her slightly cheeky looking hubby Bill, Gill, Ian, Paul and Nicki....our dancing sisters Jean and Paulina, Sue, Mick the Butcher, and so many more people.......how could I fail to enjoy this class just as much as I enjoy Monday nights? The answer is I couldnt - and I wouldnt want to be without any of you - you light up my days with your smiles, friendly encouragement and enthusiasm for Line dancing......thank you for your brilliant Christmas prezzies! The cat theme was very much appreciated - I loved opening each gift so thoughtfully wrapped one by one by our lovely Linda.....and the mummy cat and her two little kittens now have pride of place on the speaker next to the TV as I type!

Fridays little afternoon class was a new venture for me this year - initially we tried a beginner class followed by improver but it didnt entirely work and so the improvers class has be held back whilst we concentrate on attracting new dancers into our hobby. The people that have joined this class are, once again, fun loving indivuals that NEVER fail to make me laugh every time we meet up - this could be down to the exceptionally funny Chris (with the hat) and Chris (without the hat!) and their escapades -- although the laughter that comes from the back row girls (Jane, Linda, Maria etc) makes me wonder what Im missing out on at times being stuck at the front!

I love Fridays class just as much as the other two classes - they are brilliant people! Anne and Jim are always up for a giggle, Debbie, Brenda, Sandra, Jackie and our newest member Pat have taken to linedancing like ducks to water (we arent going to mention the progressive partner dance we learned this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and I think we have created several potential line dance addicts, about which I am very proud! Thank you for your prezzies everyone - once again beautifully wrapped by our Linda and cat themed......! brilliant!!

Teaching at the Viking club is a pleasure for me too - many of the dancers at the club have been dancing there for years, and have seen the coming and going of several instructors before my arrival in 2006. They took me under their wing, and any early apprehension I may have had about teaching a very gifted class of intermediate dancers soon dissapated (impressed with my big word eh?)and I very quickly began to look forward to Saturday afternoons in the company of such lovely people like Roger (ROGER!!!!), Helen, Ann, Yvonne, Welsh Annie, Sue, Angie, Sally, Sue and lorna etc....by the end of the last season I was looking forward to that break from teaching on Saturdays but by now I've had enough rest and am looking forward to getting back to the club in March to start a new season of brilliant dances (probably not yet written!!), with this fab group of people who I now consider to be as special and as precious as the dancers in my own classes.....

And before anyone asks me if Ive been drinking, no I havent! haha - Ijust thought Id take this opportunity to let you all know just how special you all are in my life, and if you cant tell people that at Christmas, well, when else can you!?

Im going to take this opportunity to wish you all a very very Merry Christmas and a happy new year - and I look forward to seeing you all in January......Im on the mend now for sure, blood tests are all normal, iron levels are going up, and with only a tiny bit of a cough left I think I can safely say that this horrible virus that has had a hold on me for the past month is well and truly behind me. Thank you all as well for all your well wishes and real concern for my health - Im only sorry that you all looked so worried!

Well, the good news is that Im finally (fingers crossed) on the mend, tho not quite firing on ALL cylinders, enough of them are working for me to have the energy to have three parties this week!! whoop whoop!!!

So with that in mind the details are as follows:

MONDAY 14TH DECEMBER - OAK LODGE PRIMARY

Doors open at 7 p.m. all levels!!

Please bring along a plate of something to share, and your own drinks for your own tables.....

We will be having a raffle so please bring along a pound or two to take part....and lets see out the year in style with all your requests, and a bit of fun and games too!

WEDNESDAY 16TH DECEMBER - WESTERGATE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

After much deliberation it has been decided to bring the PARTY FORWARD TO THIS WEEK!! It was originally planned to take place on the 23rd but we have now found out that a large number of dancers will not be around on Christmas Eve Eve to join us for fun and frolics, and so we are partying on the 16th instead!! However, there will still be a class on the 23rd to finish off the year with a bit of a festive boogie - so no doubt it will feel like we are having two parties in a row!!

The Raffle will take place this week on the 16th only tho!

Update - Tuesday 8th December....

Dear Dancers,

Well, I 'am' improving (I think) at last! but not 100 percent yet......although Im going to be brave enough to stick my neck out and say that tomorrows class in WESTERGATE SCHOOL will go ahead!!! *touches wood!

The class tomorrow (8th Dec) is NOT in the usual place (school hall) as it is being used for a school Christmas production. Intead please drive around to the 6 villages sports centre (just behind the school - follow the drive round to the left) and come into the main entrance where you will be directed up to the 'Drama Studio' on the first floor.

The Drama studio is not big enough for everyone to fit into at once - so we are operating TWO SEPARATE CLASSES just for tomorrow.

6.30 - 7.45 BEGINNERS ONLY PLEASE!!! If you arrive for the 8 o'clock class please wait outside the doors until the beginners have finished.

8 - 9.50 Improvers/Intermediates only....these dances will not be suitable for beginners.

I will try my best to teach you some new dances tomorrow night but if I find myself run out of energy I will have to revert to a request night...I hope this is ok with everyone, and can only apologise once again for having a rubbish immune system that has been knocked out by two viruses!!!!!

Hope to see you tomorrow! We will have a list by the door so that you can start to write down what you may like to bring along to our Christmas party which will be on the 23rd December....starting at 7. p.m.

FRIDAY 11TH DECEMBER - ALDINGBOURNE

CLASS CANCELLED MONDAY 7TH DEC - Still poorly...

Dear Dancers,

Much as it truly truly TRULY pains me to do this, I'm afraid that I have decided to close tomorrows class in West Wickham (Monday 7th December) due to feeling no better today with this virus/flu that I have had for three weeks now....

The 14th is our final one before Christmas and will be our party night! As we now have no chance to make a list of 'who's bringing what food' to the party perhaps you could cast your minds back to previous parties and bring the same thing again?

Its not a great plan Ill grant you! but it IS a plan!! (my brain hurts!)

so for instance - if you came to the summer party - and brought a plate of food - perhaps you could bring the same again? but! (there had to be one right?)

what if you werent at the summer party?!! well - perhaps you can cast your mind further back to last Christmas and bring what you brought then!!!?!? haha

This isnt going to work well is it girls? Well, we can but try eh!? Im bringing the plates, bowls, forks and serviettes....all we need now is the food!

Remember to bring your own drinks for your own table - and some coins for the raffle too!

We have a lovely HUGE 'snowman' from erm The Snowman as one of the prizes, or a lovely bottle of wine - or a huge tin of Quality street! and perhaps one or two other prizes too......

An update on my illness.....December 6th....

Dear Dancers,

Well,I would love to be on here telling you all that Im fit and healthy once more but unfortunately that isnt quite the case....

I am still recovering from the effects of two nasty cold/flu viruses (one on top of the other) and think my recovery may take a little longer than anticipated.

I cannot tell you what a bad patient I am! I hate being ill, I hate having to 'rest', and I hate not being able to go out and about as normal. But most of all I hate not being able to dance and to teach....:(

Some days are better than others, and just as I think Im turning a corner and getting better the following day Im worse than ever.....the doctors have sent me for a chest xray to check how my chest infection is going, and the results should be back in a week.

In the meantime, Im stuck indoors, doing nothing (which is truly driving me crazy!) just waiting to get better - Andy is looking after me really well, but is now beginning to come down with some flu symptoms himself.....lets hope he doesnt get it too bad himself, or we will both need looking after and will be putting out an advert for a nurse!

I hope you arent missing your dancing too much - Linda very kindly ran the Friday afternoon class for me yesterday - taking in her own cd system and having a little social for the group - thank you so much Linda - it was much appreciated by me and I know, by the dancers themselves.

At the moment Mondays class looks doubtful - so please do check on here before setting off for class on Monday - I will post a message by Sunday evening letting you know if the class is on or off.

I truly hope I am able to do Wednesdays class - as that will be almost four weeks Ive been ill by then....and they tell me its not the flu! Yes well I have my own opinion on that!

Thats all for now folks, as I say, please do pop back on here on Sunday evening for an update of how things are, and Ill end this by saying once again how sorry I am that the classes are all so up in the air at the moment. I have already bought some lovely raffle prizes for your Christmas parties so I do hope so much that they will all go ahead.

CLASS CANCELLED TONIGHT....WED 2ND DEC

Dear Dancers,

I am so sorry but I cannot run the class for you tonight as I am still very unwell.

I appear to have caught a second virus on top of the first one and have been ordered to stay in by my doctor.

Next week the hall is being used by the school for a christmas show and so we have been offered use of the Drama studio - which is quite small and so i will have to split the class into two groups.

beginners 6.30 - 7.45
improvers/intermediates 8 - 9.45

please allow the beginners time to leave before you arrive as there isnt enough room in the studio for everyone.

so sorry about tonights class - hopefully ill be ok for next week - but please do check back on here to make sure before you set out for class.

Dear Dancers,

First of all can I apologise for having to cancel this coming Monday's class, but I have been very poorly, and doctor's (and Andy's) order's are to take it easy and rest until I feel 100 percent.

The good news is that I am finally beginning to feel a little better, which is better than a bit worse every day as it has been for the past two weeks!

I want to send get well wishes to Mo and Lin who have also been struck down by the lurgy!! Get well soon you two - lets all get together again on the 7th December shall we?!!

Sorry......but some classes are cancelled....Thurs Nov 26th..

Dear Dancers,

First of all can I just apologise to all my Westergate dancers for not being able to be there last night? I hear that Andy did a great job playing all your requests, and I hope you all had a nice time.

I have been quite poorly for over a week now with a nasty viral infection - basically - a cold - but a really vicious one that has completely floored me!

I am therefore going to have to cancel tomorrow afternoons class in Aldingbourne too - doctors orders! All Im allowed to do, is rest, rest and rest some more.....and its very frustrating! Each time I try to defy doctors orders and go out I get worse, and so, for the next few days at least, Im giving in to it and sitting it out.

Mondays class may have to be cancelled too - but I will post on here by Sunday lunchtime to let you know how things stand.

I hear that several of my dancers are poorly with this nasty bug too, and Im sending you all my love and hugs and best wishes to get well soon - at least we are all suffering together eh!!!!? (hmmmm! thats not much consolation is it!!!?)

Thank you for my get well card Westergate dancers - your funny little comments made me laugh - especially Kate-Jane's and Jane-Kate's one about coming to see you at the hospital!! hahahaha!!! Oh and I loved Robins upside down message too! But thank you everyone for your lovely comments - I hope to be fit and well by next Wednesday - well I had better be, because I shall be sooooooooooooooooooooo cross if Im not, I can tell you!!!!

THE KATZ NEXT WEEKEND BREAK!!! UPDATE!!!

We have managed to book two of the top UK linedance acts for our weekend break to Bideford in February (19th - 22nd)!!!

PLAIN LOCO AND ALAN GREGORY!!!!!

If you have yet to put your name down for this trip then please do so asap as the coach is filling up fast......

The cost is £165.00 per person - which includes RETURN COACH TRAVEL to either Beckenham, or Chichester/Bognor area....Three nights dinner bed and breakfast, friday night disco with DJ Andy!, Saturday night with Plain Loco, and Sunday night with the nicest, funniest enertainer we have on the circuit ALAN GREGORY!! (who is only available because it is a Sunday!!!)

The hotel is the Durrant House Hotel and they have a fab website which I suggest you visit http://www.durranthousehotel.com/dancing.php so you can see what luxurious surroundings we are taking you to....yes, Folkestone was tons of fun, no doubt about that, BUT!!! I like a bit of luxury when I go away, and Im sure you do too!!!??! The hotel is very reasonably priced, and Im sure you will agree that to have the worry of travel taken out of your hands is a huge bonus on a trip to Devon in February.....on board the coach you can expect fun and games in the form of our famous quizes!!! Plus an onboard TV gives us the choice of lying back and watching a movie en route!! Suggestions for suitable movies on a postcard please!!

It looks beautiful, Im sure you will agree - and we have the opportunity to run a weekender there from Friday February 19th - til Monday 22nd...... at the moment we think we can bring the trip in for around £150.00 per person but have to do a little more research before we can confirm that price!

We are planning to have live music on Saturday and Sunday night....with a disco on Friday........

A big big Thank you to all our lovely dancers for joining us on our FIFTH Annual Club weekend break this year!

We had a lovely time down in Folkestone in The Southcliff Hotel on The Leas...despite the horrendous weather conditions!

My weekend started on Friday morning when I awoke to the sound of heavy rain outside my window.......I put the radio on to hear 'there are terrible driving conditions today in West Sussex with trouble on the A27, the M23 and around the Chichester area'

So I turned it off.

Then went upstairs and put the tv on - just in time to see a map of the UK with HUGE arrows pointing right at FOLKESTONE and heard the weather girl say 'there are gales of up to 70 mph heading for the South East coast tonight..'

So I turned that off too!!!

Well I thought, what's the worse that can happen? The coach could be stuck somewhere in a flood - people may not reach the hotel due to fallen trees - mum could be stuck on a train somewhere....and so my thoughts raged right up until I saw the very welcome sight of the Diamond coach pulling into Aldingbourne Social Club bang on time being driven by its very capable driver, Bob!

I boarded the coach with the 'Aldingbourne Crew' which consisted of Linda, Jane, Charley, Jim, Anne and Chris - who promptly all ran to the very back of the coach leaving me all on my own at the front!! (well, until Chris felt sorry for me and came up front to keep me company that is!).

We set off for Beckenham, and I played a 'beat the intro' music quiz much to the upset of Bob who was quite happy to listen to Radio Two instead!

The winners of the intro quiz were Jane's team on the back seat - and the prize of a huge box of Maltesers was claimed instantly by Jane who refused to share! (what an example to set your daughter!! tut tut!)

After a brief stop at Pease Pottage we set off for Beckenham, despite the horrendous travel conditions we felt safe in Bob's hands and we pulled up in Manor Way just five minutes after our expected time - which was a miracle considering what we were up against with the roads!

Lots of happy (slightly wet) faces greeted us in Beckenham and we welcomed aboard the West Wickham dancers.........there was a slight moment of panic when we realised there was no sign of Brenda - but five minutes later she came running along with her suitcase soaked to the skin but smiling anyway!

So leg two of our journey began, the anagram quiz caused a bit of a stir - with someone (no names mentioned) thinking that the anagram for Bob Marley was someone unknown called 'Barley Nob!!!' hehe....I wouldnt mind but the letters arent even the same! For ever more now, Bob Marley will be known as Barley Nob to me.....!

Kellie took several minutes to recover from her fit of giggles and even had to get the tissues out to wipe her eyes.....and usually its Theresa we get these little gems from - but this time - it wasn't her! sorry Theresa for mentioning your name - you know I love you to bits!

We reached Maidstone services in good time - and the heavens had begun to open up good and proper again by now - but the lovely Bob pulled up literally right by the doors and we all ran in and kept nice and dry.....

As we boarded the coach for our final run of motorway the heavens really did open and we drove through torrential rain and high winds - we witnessed a huge lorry swerving all across three lanes in front of us as he narrowly missed a little van in front of him changing lanes without looking! But again, Bob kept us safe and we cracked on with our Big 70's quiz!! Now I have to say the moaning about the football questions was a little unecessary wasn't it? Ive never heard so much whinging just because someone doesnt know anything about football!! and anyway, they werent ALL about football were they!!!? (just some of them!)

The winners of this quiz were Debbie and Isabel! Who we think guessed half their answers - but who cares!

We pulled up outside the Southcliff at five to three which was pretty good going considering the amount of rain and potential problems we faced when we woke up that morning!

Sherrie the assistant manager boarded the coach before anyone could get off and laid down the law!! haha!!! Ive never seen so many scared faces in my life! she was a little scray tho I must admit! but I can only think that she must have some pretty unruly groups in her hotel on occasion and just wanted to make sure you all knew the procedure (well, thats my excuse and Im sticking to it!)

Once inside the hotel we were greeted by lots more smiling faces of our other dancers from all over.......it seems everyone managed to get through the traffic with little trouble after all!!

The weekend was relatively trouble free - well, apart from my sister Sues friend almost bringing the lounge ceiling down with her shower in the room above that is!!

The Texas Tornadoes arrived and joined us for dinner - Pete made friends with my mum and giggled away with her throughout the meal - he offered to take her up in the lift to the ballroom - but mum wasnt aware of this, and thought she was going to her room (wrong lift mum!!!) and so her and Pete had a tour of all of the floors of the other side of the hotel until finally he put her in the ballroom! (only my mum eh?)

The Tornados were in great form and really got the party started for us on Friday night - ably assisted by the lovely Andy playing everyones requests - we also had our raffle and Sensational Seventies Picture Quiz which was won by my siser Sue and her friends - with the runners up being Debbie and Isabel (they were really on a winning streak this weekend!)

We partied on til 1.30 a.m. when the final dancers started flagging Sally and Sue were amongst the last to get off to bed (but there were no surpises there!!!)

Saturday morning saw the first of our dance lessons - and I taught the following dances:

NOTHING'S GONNA BRING ME DOWN - By Ria Vos - this is a 32 count dance, no tags or restarts- to a great song by Paolo Nutini called Pencil Full of Lead......

next up I decided to teach a dance from a few years back called

DO WOP BE DO BE DOO - written to Shang a Lang by the Bay City Rollers - to keep us in with the 70's theme of the weekend - most of the dancers had never learned this dance before and even those that knew it already were very happy to re learn such a great dance!

Next was a new dance by Rob Fowler called...

CASANOVA COWBOY - written to Cowboy Casanova by Carrie Underwood....a really cool 32 counter that fits the music very well - a big hit with eveyone!

An inpromptu request from some quarters resulted in me teaching..

HOT TOMALAS!!!!! A huge number of dancers had never done this dance before and loved it!

Finally I taught

TIME TO PLAY - By Peter and Alison - 32 counts - ultra funky - one for the higher intermediates because of its speed and tricky timing......this one was loved by our younger dancers in particular!!

Saturday afternoon was free to do as you wished.....I chose to do nothing and have a rest before decorating the hall for tonights 70's themed party....but some people decided to go shopping.......which was fine up until about 3 oclock when the biggest storm hit Folkestone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We watched from our bedroom window as several people dressed as drowned rats came running back up the street to the hotel for refuge!!! Yvonne and Ann were completely soaked to the sking and as Yvonne said 'I was wet right up to the top of my tousers!!!' - and there was me thinking it was a Tena lady moment....!!! haha

The storm raged on for a good couple of hours, during which Jenny, Tom and Amy arrived! It was so windy Amy actually couldnt walk through the alley way and they had to take the long route round to the front entrance!!

Kellie, Andy and I decorated the hall for the evenings party - and got it looking as tacky as we possibly could - old fashioned balloons, crepe paper, plastic bowls with sweets and quality street in, were all I could remember from parties in the 70's!!! so that was what we gave you!

Saturday nights meal was a traditional Christmas dinner - and we had beautifully decorated tables and presents given to us by the hotel - I had a lovely little Christmas mug with a Snowman in it! Thank you Southcliff for such a lovely suprise!

The party on Saturday night started with people arriving dressed in their 70's gear - The Selsey Girls looked amazing in their wigs and Sue and Sally were Anafird and Agnetha from ABBA - you looked pretty amazing girls! I loved Ann's pink wig too - and Yvonne - I didnt even recognise you when you walked in! you must do long black hair more often, it really suited you!

Liz looked lovely in her little white and blue number - Mick was the only male Bay City Roller Fan I have ever seen, Lisa went for the other end of the 70's and came as a rebel!! (what else would you expect!!?) Kellie looked fab in her Afro (I thought Jamie Afro had arrived when she walked in!) - but I have to say was out afro-ed a tad by Emmas HUGE red one when she arrived later in the evening with little Caity in her lovely 70's clothes!

The winners of our Fancy dress parade were Christine and Suzannah - who had come dressed as The Carpenters......Christine looked so funny as Richard Carpenter...and even adopted the American accent......you should be on the stage Christine!! Our second prize went to Amy for her ABBA outfit - the long blonde curls looked amazing! Little Caity won third prize for being so cute, and Mick won a special prize for his Bay City Rollers outfit......in the form of a Simon Cowell Calendar - I hope you keep that safe young Mick!!

The Aldingbourne crew looked fab in their outfits - with Charley adding extra sparkle to the proceedings in her lovely outfit.

Sarah and her mum Carolyn were fellow Bay City Roller fans!! HURRAY!!! in all there were four of us!! Ahh I knew the band would still have a following somewhere!!!

A huge thank you to all of you that dressed up for the occasion !! it is lovely when so many people make the effort to join in the fun by making costumes and really adds to the atmosphere of the evening!

Our entertainer for Saturday night was the gorgeous Tim McKay - who wowed the girls with his voice and good looks, and his sense of humour too - we particularly loved the partner dance - with Andy calling out how many partners ahead we needed to change to, it was an hysterical challenge and something I wont forget in a long while!!

Thank you Tim for being so good natured and joining in the fun with us!

We partied on until 2 a.m. on Saturday night with the last ones out of the ballroom being Emma and Caity who had only arrived at 8 p.m. as we waved goodbye to Emma in the lift to her room she was still saying 'BUT I'VE ONLY JUST ARRIVED!' haha

Sunday morning saw the last of our dance sessions - I reviewed all of the previous days dances, and added in two new ones...

THINK I'M FALLING - By Justine Brown - to Think Im falling in Love by Harrison County - this is a lovely little 32 count easy dance that has the potential to stick around for a long while....fingers crossed for you Justine!

and the final teach was..

TOPSY TURVY - By Sandra Speck - a 64 count improver level dance written to Upside Down by Paloma Faith - a good fun dance - with nothing complicated in it...which makes it an instant floor filler!

Before we knew it it was time to say our thank you's and goodbyes - these weekends are always over far too quickly!!

We must once again thank Kellie and Linda for all their hard work throughout the year, and I want to thank Viv for taking so many photos - (I havent seen them yet but cant wait!).

I also want to thank everyone that came up and said nice things about us, we were very touched by your comments, and hope to see you all again on our next trip, which could be much sooner than you expected!!

the hotel is called The Derwent House Hotel and its beautiful!!! I think its time we went for a little luxury and stayed for an extra night too!!

FOLKESTONE UPDATE! plus......

Well its almost upon us! Our annual weekend club break that is!

For those of you coming to Folkestone this weekend you should have all received a letter giving details about travel to and from the hotel plus what to expect on arrival etc. However if you haven't, then the basic details are as follows:-

COACH TRAVEL - Friday......

Aldingbourne - Please be in Aldingbourne Social Club’s Car park at 9.15 a.m. on Friday 13th November – the coach will leave promptly at 9.30 a.m.

We will be stopping for a comfort break at Pease Pottage - although the coach is fitted with an on board toilet should you need it!

Backenham - Manor Way - Please be in Manor Way, Beckenham (see map) by 11.45 – the coach will leave promptly at 12.00 noon

We will be stopping at Maidstone Services for a 25 minute 'lunch' break.

HALF TERM in The Katz LDC.....Week beginning Oct 26th..

Dear Dancers,

Just a little note to reassure that all classes are running as normal this week despite it being half term.

If you are coming dancing tonight I'm afraid I have some sad news to tell you.

One of our lovely intermediate dancers has sadly passed away after a short illness.

Stephanie Hartley died last week from Cancer. She wasn’t diagnosed with the illness until two weeks before she passed away. She hadn’t known she was ill until suffering a stroke whilst out with her husband one day. It was a terrible shock to hear that she had terminal cancer, but an even bigger shock to hear that she had succumb to this terrible illness so quickly.

Last week we knew she was nearing the end and sent a card from all of us to her, and her family. Sadly Steph passed away the next day.

We will miss her in our classes, she was a lovely girl, always smiling and happy. She was only 53 years old and had so much more to live for.

Her funeral is to take place next Monday in Beckenham at 12.45. If you knew Steph well and would like more information about this please come and ask me for details.

We are doing a collection today for charity in Steph’s name – and all contributions would be gratefully received. We will send
the money to St. Christopher’s Hospice, who are one of the chosen charities her family have suggested we send our donations to.

If you were a close friend of Steph's and are only hearing this news for the first time, my apologies for delivering it to you in this way, we are hopeful that those that were close to her will already have been told and do not want to shock anyone, but want to make sure that those that did know her get the chance to pay their last respects by donating to charity or attending the funeral itself.

Sorry once again for being the bearer of such sad news.

SATURDAY 31ST OCTOBER.....SELSEY....

This Saturday is the last one of the current season at the Viking - and we are going out in style with a HALLOWEEN PARTY!

If you would like to dress up on Saturday night please feel free!! we have Darren Busby and Fools Gold to entertain us on the final night of the season and I have a feeling its going to be a good one!

This week at the club.....12th October 2009

Dear Dancers,

Just a quickie to let you all know that all classes are running as normal this week! Well, apart from the Selsey class of course!

Monday - class as normal in Oak Lodge Primary school - tonight we are going to be on week two of BAD INFLUENCE, Week one of TIME TO SWING...and for our beginners ...THE LEMON TREE... plus lots of reviews of all your fave dances....

I am thinking of changing to a different way of teaching - in essence it would mean teaching new dances for three weeks, and on week four, we have a party night instead! Please do let me know your thoughts on this tonight..... :D I think it could work very well for our 7.30 - 9.45 dancers...!

Wednesday - Westergate school

Class is on as normal - and again, the same system of three weeks of learning new dances, followed by a party night is being considered......all we need to do is to work out which week to start on.!!! should be fun! a show of hands late in last Wednesdays class showed a unanimous YES for this idea......I think it could have been the mention of 'bring your own drinks' that did it? :D This week we will sort out which Wednesday will be our first PARTY NIGHT.......! watch this space...

Friday - Aldingbourne social club.

My apologies for last weeks class being cancelled a the last minute! I woke up with raging toothache and the only time the dentist could see me was 1p.m!!! Again - my apologies - i only had time to call one or two people before i had to make my way to the surgery...so I hope not too many of you had a wasted journey?

This week we are almalgamating the new dancers into the 1.30 class as the turn out has been very poor for our new AB class unfortunately - any new dancers reading this - please do come along at 1.15 for 15 minutes of separate tuition before the main class begins...dont worry - you will catch up in no time as the 1.30 class is still very much at beginner level....my apologies for this also - our class in Aldingbourne is our newest venture and these things often take a little time to establish - so stick with us, Im sure we will get there in the end!

Saturday and Sunday at the Viking

This week we have the OCTOBER VIKING PARTY WEEKEND so my lessons are at 10.45 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday morning and are £10 each which would include staying on for live music from 1 p.m. til 4! Tickets are available for the whole weekend at a cost of £40 which will get you in for all FIVE sessions of entertainment - please go to Andys website for all details about the party www.vikingcwdc.co.uk

If you usually come along to my lessons at 1 p.m. and cant make this weeks special event, I will see you again the following week as usual.

Thank you for your money for the Folkestone trip - you will shortly receive letters with information on about coach travel and a basic itinerary - in the meantime please dont forget to start on those fancy dress costumes - the theme for Saturday night is of course THE SENSATIONAL SEVENTIES!!! The 70's was the era of Glam Rock, The Osmonds, The Bay City Rollers, Punk Rock, Soul, Saturday Night Fever and so much more - there will be prizes for the most inventive outfits - but a word of warning here - it is NOT possible to dance in 6 inch platforms - i know - ive tried it!!! haha!

Charity Night Update.

Thank you to everyone for their support of Sylvia's charity night for the West Sussex Learning Links - we raised a grand total of around £650.00 and we had a great time doing so! Thank you to the school for allowing us to use their facilities for free, to Michaela for offering to caretake for free too! to Steve for his fabby singing, and Andy for his DJing skills, Sylvia and her friends for the delicious Ploughmans they provided, John for the Wishing Well (that i got my head stuck in) and to everyone else who helped with this event - it went so smoothly it was almost too easy!

Im looking forward to the next one!

Dear Dancers,

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people that have supported our efforts to keep the class running at the Viking for the final few weeks of the season (see post below for full story). It has been lovely to see lots of familiar faces coming along to lessons as usual - and even more lovely, that no one has complained about paying for lessons.

Thank you all so very much. Next year the classes are due to return to being offered for free - and so from now until the end of the season there are only four more Saturdays to pay for - the two dance workshops included in the Viking party weekend are included in the Ticket price and there will be no extra charge.

All your line dance requests will be played by our very own top line dance DJ 'EASY A' - aka Andy Davies.......who is best known for being the resident DJ at The Viking Music and Dance Club in Selsey......Andy and Steve will keep you dancing for the whole evening - and I will join in the fun by teaching one or two special fun linedances for our guest from The West Sussex Learning Links.........

A buffet is included in the price, and there will be a Raffle also - if you have any prizes you would like to donate to the raffle - please do bring them along on the night!

I have a feeling it's going to be a great evening - miss it and miss out!

The Victoria Hotel in Torquay is fabulous - we have reserved the gorgeous upstairs ballroom already - and just need to know we can meet the numbers before this break can be set in stone.....the approximate cost of the trip will be £130 (self drive) coach travel should cost around £25 each) all prices to be confirmed......

A message to all Viking Line Dancers......

Dear Dancers,
Due to a Bunn Leisure review on all entertainment
facilities on offer to holidaymakers and owners, the
entire entertainment programme across all 3 parks
has been radically altered. It has been decided to
temporarily suspend the offer of free line dance
lessons at the Viking, This decision was not taken
by the Viking Club’s manager.
In order to avoid disappointment to you,
our valued dancers, by having to close the class
completely, it has been agreed that Julie will continue to
teach at the Viking, but in the capacity of a freelance
instructor, running a private class. Therefore
a small weekly entry fee will be charged as follows:-

Adults - £3.00 each – Under 16’s £2.00
(Please see Andy or Linda to pay....)
We are very sorry that this class can no
longer be offered for free, but do hope that
you will continue to come to classes, and
support Julie in her efforts to keep your
club open for business! 

Please note that this decision will not affect Saturday
nights in any way – the entertainment will continue as
advertised – including the October Party (complete
with free lessons from Julie on Saturday and Sunday
mornings). There is every possibility that free lessons
will resume in 2010.

Well, first of all my apologies for not updating my blog for a whole month!! This was partly due to my extended DIY-ing, and partly due to keep forgetting to do it!

I hope you have all had a good holiday season and are now ready for the PARTY SEASON!!??!! Well, that's what I prefer to call the next 6 months anyway!

Ok let's get started......

DIARY DATES

Friday 18th September.......NEW ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS CLASS STARTS IN ALDINGBOURNE!

12.45 p.m. - 1.45 p.m. Absolute Beginners - £3.00 which is followed by...
1.30 p.m. - 2.45 Experienced Beginners - £3.00 (Or do both classes for £4.00)

If you are reading this because you have received a leaflet through your door and are thinking of coming along to join our newest class, then all you need to do is to wear a supportive pair of low (wide) heeled shoes/boots/trainers and bring along a bottle of water and leave the rest to us.

Linedancing is a great hobby to get involved in and is a good way of getting back into exercising in a gentle fashion. It is also a lovely way to make new friends and have a bit of fun for the afternoon.

Our new class will concentrate on teaching the basics of linedancing with plenty of opportunity to practice each routine/step combination over the coming weeks and months, we have members of all ages from 8 - 80 in our classes and as linedancing doesn't need a partner you can do as much or as little as you feel able to do, there is never any pressure to dance the whole session - we encourage you to listen to your own bodies and to dance at your own pace. The early routines are very simple and even if you believe you have two left feet - I will show you that will not hinder your progress! If I had been given a pound for every new dancer that joined my classes over the years saying 'I have two left feet!!' I would be a very rich woman!

All your line dance requests will be played by our very own top line dance DJ 'EASY A' - aka Andy Davies.......who is best known for being the resident DJ at The Viking Music and Dance Club in Selsey......Andy and Steve will keep you dancing for the whole evening - and I will join in the fun by teaching one or two special fun linedances for our guest from The West Sussex Learning Links.........

A buffet is included in the price, and there will be a Raffle also - if you have any prizes you would like to donate to the raffle - please do bring them along on the night!

I have a feeling it's going to be a great evening - miss it and miss out!

THINKING AHEAD TO 2010 - IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMING ALONG ON OUR PLANNED TRIP TO TORQUAY NEXT DECEMBER (10 - 12 Dec 2010) THEN PLEASE DO PUT YOUR NAMES DOWN ON THE LIST BEING BROUGHT ALONG TO CLASSES OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS!

The Victoria Hotel in Torquay is fabulous - we have reserved the gorgeous upstairs ballroom already - and just need to know we can meet the numbers before this break can be set in stone.....the approximate cost of the trip will be £130 (self drive) coach travel should cost around £25 each) all prices to be confirmed......

THE KATZ SUMMER BREAK.....is about to begin...

Dear Dancers,

This is just a quickie to remind you all that after tomorrow nights class in Coney Hall, there will be NO CLASSES FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!!!

Because its my DIY fortnight!

I am taking time out from linedancing in order to catch up a little on jobs around the house, and apart from Saturdays Classes at the viking all other classes are closed until the following dates:

Wednesday 2nd September - Westergate returns
Friday 4th September - Aldingbourne returns
Monday 7th September - Oak Lodge returns

Dear Dancers,

Firstly can I remind all of my Oak Lodge Dancers that tonight and for the following two Mondays the class will be held in The Assembly Halls, Gates Green Road, West Wickham (Coney Hall)

As we are using a smaller hall than we are used to using - we have decided to split the class into two separate sessions:

6.30 - 7.45 Beginners only!

8 - 10 p.m. Improvers and Intermediates

Please allow the beginners time to finish their class before arriving, and this will also free up some car parking space also...thank you :)

All other classes this week are on as normal in the usual venues...

Wednesday - Westergate school - 6.30 - 9.45 p.m.

Friday - Aldingbourne Sports and social club - 1.30 - 2.45 p.m. (beginners only)

Saturday - The viking music and dance club - Selsey - 1 - 4 p.m. (1 - 2 beginners only please)

SUMMER PARTIES!

Last week we had the first of our Summer Parties in Oak Lodge school with the Texas Tornadoes - a good time was had by all! Thank you everyone for coming and helping us create a lovely relaxed atmosphere..:) (see photo at top of post!)

AUGUST 12th - WESTERGATE SCHOOL

This is the date of our Second Summer Party - please see my previous post (two below) for all deatils of this party - in short - it starts at 7 and ends at 10 - and we have PEDRO performing for us this evening.....the Hippy theme continues - so start planning those costumes!!

AUGUST 14th - ALDINGBOURNE SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB

This is the date of our third and final Summer Party - details to follow......:)

MONDAY - OAK LODGE - WEST WICKHAM

QUOSHING RUMOURS: At the risk of repeating myself, there is and NEVER has been any chance of me giving up teaching in West Wickham - I love teaching you all - I have managed to get my journey down to 90 minutes each way (No, not by speeding!! lol) and its no trouble at all.....it's my pleasure in fact. End of. Sorry - you are stuck with me! haha

Dates for your Diary:

For the first three Mondays in August we will be using our alternative venue in Coney Hall instead.

Arrangements for Coney Hall - August 3rd, 10th and 17th.

We have had to book a smaller hall than we usually have due to the belly dancers being in the other one!!!!! (NO, you cant go and join them! lol!!) and because of the smaller dance floor we will be operating the classes in TWO SEPARATE CLASSES.

Beginners 6.30 - 7.45

Improvers/Intermediate 8 - 10

Please allow the beginners time to end their class and free up some car park space before arriving for the 8 p.m. session.......Thank you....:)

WEDNESDAY CLASS - WESTERGATE COMMUNITY SCHOOL...

August 12th - ITS TIME TO PPAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!

Yes folks! It's the Wednesday class' time to join the Summer of Love and come dressed as hippies...........as we are holding our Annual Summer Party - please bring along your own drinks and a plate of food for the buffet. A list will appear a couple of weeks before the party, for you to write down what you would like to bring, one small dinner plateful will be plenty, so no need to bring loads!

I will be making up some jugs of pimms as usual (hic) and you will get a complimentary glass on arrival....

The theme for tonights party is HIPPY!!!! so get out those beads, flowers, and floral prints and lets relax dudes!

As an extra treat we will be having LIVE MUSIC from a LINE DANCE ACT!! For those of you who have yet to experience linedancing to live music, you are in for a real treat!! We have singing for his supper tonight the lovely PEDRO!! ...and from what I hear - he's a natural Hippy!!

Tickets for the party night are priced as £6.50 pay on the door - places are strictly first come first served! (children pay £3.50)

The party night will be our last night in Westergate Community School until September 2nd - when we go 'BACK TO SCHOOL!.....

HOWEVER!! MY CLASS IN SELSEY IS OPEN EVERY SATURDAY
IN THE VIKING CLUB – GREEN LAWNS CARAVAN PARK
1 – 4 P.M. – FREE CLASS – EVERYONE WELCOME – EVERY WEEK!
SO IF YOU CANT BEAR THE THOUGHT OF TWO WEEKS WITHOUT
LINEDANCING – THEN COME ALONG TO THE SELSEY CLASS INSTEAD!

FRIDAY CLASS - ALDINGBOURNE

Diary Dates:

All other Fridays will run as normal until August 14th - which will be our Summer Party...please come dressed in your most flowery outfits -with flowers in your hair and we will have a chilled out time with a glass of Pimms!

As this is our smallest newest class - we would like to ask you all to join us in Westergate on August 12th for our Annual Summer Party.........

August 14th will be our last class before a two week break....the class will re-open on September 4th!!

SATURDAY CLASS - SELSEY - THE VIKING MUSIC AND DANCE CLUB...

All free Saturday classes will continue to run throughout the summer from 1 - 4 p.m.

All of my dancers from all classes are welcome to attend the Saturday class at any time, you do not have to be a member of the club, and it is totally FREE! We just ask you to remember that as the club is licensed you are not allowed to bring in your own drinks - not even bottled water - and ask that as a matter of courtesy you buy at least one drink from across the bar. Im sure you will agree this is a small price to pay for FREE dance classes, in such fabulous surroundings...!!

Dance trainers and a new dance.....

Dear Dancers,

Captains log: Stardate 09.06.09 (here I go again!!)

Just a quickie to say thank you to my dancers that purchased trainers at our party last night - fabulous!

I still have plenty left so I will be taking the rest of my 'stock' along to tomorrow nights class (Wednesday 10th June) to see if I can tempt those dancers into buying some new groovy trainers too.....prices range from £24 to £43 a pair - payment by cash or cheque (with a bank card) is acceptable....

NEW DANCE FROM ME!!!!!!!!

About a month or so ago I was asked to write a dance to a track called FOOLING MYSELF written by a lovely guy called HENRY SMITH when he was appearing at the Viking....

His wish was my command....and the dance was written and then promptly video'd at Westergate the following week...
